Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Jones. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amber , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
“Brand Partnerships with Purpose”
This is what I stand by. It is so important for my clients to work with brands that best represent them and vice versa. At Purposed Brand Management, our mission is to empower diverse influencers by providing comprehensive support in social media management, content creation, and brand partnerships. We specialize in helping Black and Latina creators maximize their potential and ensure they receive fair compensation for their work. Through data-driven strategies and personalized guidance, we aim to amplify their voices, connect them with brands that share their values, and help them build authentic, impactful relationships with their audiences. Our goal is to create opportunities that reflect the true value of our influencers and elevate their presence in the digital space. Diversity is key, and I want to make sure that my clients are getting paid at the same rate or more than their counterparts.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Well I am a 26-year-old creative who has always had a knack for social media. The first taste of the social media world that I had was making my first YouTube video in 2017. I had no idea the vision or plans I had with the channel, but everything I have experienced has brought me to this point. I got monetized on YouTube almost 3 years ago, and I got monetized on TikTok last year.
Soon after, I knew if I kept pushing and taking this seriously, I would be able to make a business out of this. I went on a very strict wellness & mental journey for three months in 2023 that transformed me and changed my passions and outlook on life.
I was this beauty reviewer who had worked with the likes of Urban Decay, Armani Beauty, and Makeup by Mario with a very strong and dedicated audience to someone who was filled with a passion for mental health, leveling up, and discipline. I no longer wanted to showcase my beauty, and I wanted people to see me for my brain.
In October of 2023, I started the Always Plenty Podcast, which is a podcast dedicated to self-development, entrepreneurship, and faith. I went through a very trying time last year with my spiritual journey because I was immobile for 3 months due to a sports injury after having this 3-month long transformation. I was super defeated, but I decided to use that pain and downtime to create something that women like me in their 20s and 30s could learn from.
With the podcast, I’ve interviewed lots of women entrepreneurs, and during this time I was still doing freelance social media management with service providers and start-up companies. I’ve also been mentoring other content creators who are trying to monetize on social platforms for the past year as well. I had gotten all these clients by word of mouth or them finding me on my socials and simply asking for advice.
After I got done with my last freelance project, I realized I wanted to help more businesses and influencers with branding and social media, so I launched Purposed Brand Management, a branding & influencer management solutions company.
What I find with most big talent agencies is that their creators fill like they are getting lost in the mix, and they may feel that they want an agency that is smaller to really focus on them. This is why I only take a certain amount of clients quarterly so that I can really maximize my time spent on them. Keeping my agency boutique in size allows creators to feel like they are a priority.
I am also very passionate about influencers getting paid their worth, and in my experience, most influencers that I connect with go unpaid or underpaid for a multitude of projects. I also love helping brands find their way and pinpointing an audience. The end goal is to be able to elevate small businesses and influencers with my expertise in social media and branding strategy.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’ve been an avid social media user for years, and as a creator myself, I’m deeply immersed in this world. In my free time, I’m not usually watching TV or having wild nights out; instead, I’m watching the latest 2024 algorithm update videos. I’m currently taking an influencer marketing course online at Rutgers, constantly educating myself more and more each day in this field. The people around me know how passionate I am about social media, SEO, and video editing hacks—I can talk for hours about them. This is a challenging field to be in, and if I wasn’t passionate about it, I wouldn’t even bother because the monetary rewards aren’t much at the beginning. But I genuinely love what I do, and that drives me to keep learning and improving. People see that fire and passion inside of me as I speak and that most definitely helps with my reputation as a social media expert.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I’ve listened to the Atomic Habits hype for years but never picked up the book until last month. All I can say is, wow—how my perspective has changed. Since I manage almost everything in my agency, I find time management to be the hardest for me. It’s easy for me to take on more than I can handle, and after reading the book, I realized that my systems were not in place for me to be successful. If you struggle with time management or sticking to things, I highly suggest this book because it shows you exactly where you’re letting procrastination sneak in.
