Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber Hinrichsen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amber , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always loved creating since I was a child. I was always drawing, panting and making presents for my friends and family. Learning how things are made fascinates me and I like to be hands on. I’ve practiced in many mediums and found my love for glass in college. I’ve recently begun working full time for another glass artist and my dream is to have my own shop one day.
Amber , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Any art forms provides insight into an artists views of the world. I enjoy making people feel something with my glass work. Making delicate human organs out of a fragile material reiterates how brittle our bodies are.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is doing what I love and being able to go to work happy. Working a job just to get paid is miserable and being in a creative environment with ideas flowing and opportunities around ever corner is very fulfilling.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I began my journey to be an artist I was asked, “When are you going to get a real job? You know with a 401k and benefits?” At times I wondered if that was the option for me. Through dead end jobs, I realized being happy and working for myself is something that is obtainable for anyone willing to do the work. It’s easy to do the same boring things day in and out for a pay check but it won’t feed your soul or create the happiness one desires in life.
