Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?

As a single mom with a heart full of ambition, I set out on a remarkable journey that would rewrite my story and hopefully inspire countless others. What began as a side hustle to make ends meet blossomed into a full-service boutique SEO agency.

My journey began in the late hours of the night and early morning hours before school lunches needed to be prepped. With my laptop glowing through the night and an insatiable hunger to learn, I dived headfirst into strategy. Balancing my full-time job, parenting responsibilities, and a demanding corporate job I transformed my small home office into a sanctuary of creativity and strategy.

My marketing prowess began to spread like wildfire, and the word-of-mouth referrals began coming in left and right. Local businesses seeking a digital edge started knocking on my virtual door. My initial foray into side projects soon snowballed into a steady stream of clients. Sleepless nights became my backdrop for the agency’s genesis.

The turning point arrived when a nationwide dental company trusted me with its online presence. Armed with unwavering passion and a knack for deciphering search algorithms, I orchestrated a meticulously crafted UX strategy that propelled their website from dull to daring. Bookings surged, and my name was shared across LinkedIn and through personal referrals.

With a growing clientele and an expanding team, my side hustle had evolved into a thriving boutique Marketing and SEO agency. My home office was now a bustling hub of creativity, where designers, writers, and strategists met to sculpt digital success stories.

In 2023, growing a digital marketing agency demanded more than technical prowess; it required a symphony of skills. Working in corporate marketing I understood this well. Daily I strive to blend cutting-edge SEO techniques with a deep understanding of user intent, creating a seamless fusion of technology and empathy. We continue to thrive not just on data, but on the art of crafting stories that resonated with our client’s audiences.

Algorithms shifted, and social media trends came and went, but The Active Media focus remained steadfast. Continuous learning is my mantra, and my team is a reflection of my insatiable thirst for knowledge.

I hope my story is an ode to the modern entrepreneur, a shining example of what it takes to grow a digital marketing agency in 2023. Those late nights turned into digital triumphs, of small steps transformed into giant leaps.

I truly care for each and every sized business that comes my way. Those late nights of brainstorming and pushing myself way outside of my comfort zone will never fade in my memory. Unlike many agencies in my industry staying connected and making real connections with my clients is #1. That is my brand. Real connections, fast growth and transparent processes.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

I can’t help everyone. Sometimes clients come to me and want a site and want it rank but have no vision for what the end outcome will be. I’ve learned that if this is the case, it’s best to arm them with information first. These type of clients get overwhelmed and tell me that they are not ready and they’ll come back when they are, and they DO!

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

No intial capitol here folks! I hustled my way, used all the free tools, watched all the Youtube videos and scrapped by to load up my brain with the latest trends and skills I needed.
