We were lucky to catch up with Amber Farooqui recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
The Sisterhood Community was an idea I had for awhile. I wasn’t exactly clear on what I wanted to create, but I knew I wanted to create some type of a community for female leaders to level up in both business and life with support and empowerment from other females. I wanted to create that safe space for females to join and feel like they belong. A place where we collaborate and unite rather than compete and cat talk.
I decided to just start and take action. So it began with writing out what I wanted to build so I could create more of a clear vision. Then it was sharing more about my vision on social media. After that. I gained some attention on it and decided to host a networking event in 2021 that 10 girls showed up and it was in an office space.
Then from there, I started to figure out what more I wanted to build and started taking action. I knew what was lacking and the gap that there was and I worked on filling it. I created a women’s mastermind doing what I was already doing (business coaching) and added some more mastermind things into it and started. I had no idea how it was going to work, but I just took the action and went for it. I let go of the self doubt and worries because I had nothing to loose. I would just learn and could try again if I failed.
In 2022 I had the first Sisterhood Conference event which was 2 days, a sold out event with 50+ attendees, speakers and attendees from all over the US, sponsors, and a charity partnership.
When you don’t get so carried away with the how, and just go for it. Miracles do happen! YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE!
Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The first time I got into business was at a very young age. I grew up around a grandfather and father who were entrepreneurs, so it has always been something I was interested and intrigued by. I saw the life they built for themselves and their family, and I wanted to continue doing something similar but to an even higher extent. I have always wanted more in life.
My first business was started unintentionally and it was all due to the power of social media. I started sharing my fitness journey on social media around the age of 17 and long story short, that turned into a business. I turned my passion into a career. I became a fitness coach for people all over the world utilizing social media. I had workout programs, guides, did in person + virtual trainings, etc.
After a couple years, in 2020 beginning of the pandemic, I realized I was loosing my interest in the fitness side of things and wanted to pursue more of the business side. I knew I was really good at marketing, sales, social media so I transitioned into a business coach.
The transition was difficult due to everyone seeing me just as the “fitness” girl, but that is when I decided to write a book. It was a self improvement book on the 5-dimensions of wellness. It is called “Finding Your Fit: A guide to living your best life” which is about the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social wellbeing of one and how to master all 5 to live a well rounded life. Over time I realized being “fit” wasn’t just the physical appearance of one, it was so much more than that, so I wanted to share that with the world, as well as bits of my story because I knew many could relate and benefit from it. That book hit best seller in less than 24 hours, which then built some sort of authority in who I am and allowed people to take me more seriously when I launched my business coaching and consulting business.
Now in 2022, I own multiple businesses helping people launch and scale a high end brand through community, coaching, and mentorship. I also am a huge advocate for female business owners and helping females find their passions and realize how much potential and power they truly have and can have. I created The Sisterhood Community specifically for this.
The products/services I provide in my business are courses, programs, consulting, coaching, a females mastermind, I host yearly conferences for female leaders, and more in that arena.
I help my clients find themselves while building a business that allows them to turn their dreams into reality and live a life of freedom. What separates me from others is my story. I believe everyones story is what truly differentiates them. There’s a million business coaches out there, with probably somewhat similar services/products, but there is only 1 me. I may be young, but I have a ton of experience and was born in the social media age and learned how to dominate in that arena. So now I am able to teach others how to monetize on social media as well while turning their passions into a business whether it is full time or part time.
Currently I am most proud of my Females Mastermind Program and The Sisterhood Community It is a small intimate group of female leaders and every single female has accomplished if not one, all of their goals from the first round. We are now on round 2 and we are striving for similar result, but better! Our first conference in 2022, was a 2-day conference that sold out and we had speaker and attendees from all over the US, which was so incredible. I am so excited to help more females step into their purpose, power, and potential this year through community, coaching, and mentorship.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I began as a fitness coach and transitioned into a business coach in 2020. It was a difficult transition for me because everyone saw me as the “fitness girl” and not a girl who knew anything about business. Even though the reason I was able to build a successful fitness coaching business at such a young age was because I was good at the business side of things. The marketing, the sales, the social media side, branding, etc. People didn’t see that side of it because they just though I knew fitness, when in reality I knew so much more. So it was a difficult transition and I had to basically prove myself to everyone that I was capable.
I ended up writing a book to set myself apart and show myself as a female leader. Within 24 hours I hit best seller and that was another reason for people to see me as someone who knew what I was doing.
During those past couple years I really invested a lot of my time, energy, effort, and money into coaches, mentors, masterminds, courses, and all that helped me grow in both business and life.
Then I began really launching and scaling my business coaching business.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My side hustle did turn into my main/full time business. I started my first business as I was entering University so I was always a full time student while building my side-hustle. Overtime I realized this was something I really wanted to scale so I decided to really scale my final year of college when classes were giving virtual options due to covid. So that was truly a blessing in disguise in some ways. That really helped me with more time for my business and that is when I scaled to higher extents. Over the years of being a college student, I was interning some places and trying different things out to see what I enjoyed, learn more, and just gain experiences. I graduated June of 2022 and in October of 2022 I officially became a full time business owner and not half student half business owner. Now this is what I do full time and I couldn’t be more grateful and blessed.
