We were lucky to catch up with Amber Fant recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amber , thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
As a black single mother, navigating the challenging landscape of corporate America fresh out of college while raising my young daughter, Madelyn, struggles sometimes were an everyday experience. Each day, I put on my game face, working tirelessly, climbing the corporate ladder and trying to go my lash business out of my home. Dreaming of something more—something that would allow me to break free from the confines of the corporate world and pursue a greater passion.
My desire to provide her daughter with a better life intensified when she started school during the pandemic. The isolation of the pandemic created an urge to build something of my own, something that would support my family but also allow me to make a difference in my community.
One fateful day, I was fired from my job in corporate America. At that moment, I decided to take a leap of faith because I could no longer allow another person to determine my ability to provide for my daughter. With nothing but a burning passion and unwavering determination, I made the bold decision to embark on a journey into the unknown world of entrepreneurship.
With my savings carefully tucked away, I was able to pour my heart and soul into the new venture—an aesthetic spa that would serve as an oasis for all things beauty. I spent countless hours refining business plans, scouting locations, and sourcing the finest products.
There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, times when I wondered if I’d had made the right decision. But through it all, I remained steadfast in my belief that I was meant for something greater.
Finally, the day arrived when I opened the doors to my spa for the first time. The smiling faces of eager customers streamed in, eager to experience my new vision come to life. Through the ups and downs, I never lost sight of the reason for that leap of faith—to create a better future for my daughter and I. Today as I look around the spa, filled with laughter and conversation, I know that I have succeeded and I’m just getting started.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Initially, I was introduced to the beauty industry when I was forced to learn to do my own lashes cause the local beauty supply stores were jammed packed. I taught myself how to do cluster lashes and shortly afterwards I saw advertisements online about mink extensions trainings. My co workers at the time saw a talent that I didn’t see at the time because they all really wanted me to take the class probably because they were my customers. After lots of convincing, I took the class and the rest was literally history.
Today, I stand as an award winning licensed esthetician and spa owner. We offer a variety of services such as stress relief , beauty enhancements, and skin care all tailored to address each specific needs of every individual.
My business is my heart and I’m most proud of the community engagement that my spa has been apart of such as school drives and sponsoring events to help other entrepreneurs in the community.
As the owner of a spa, I want potential clients to know several key aspects that set my establishment apart and make it an ideal choice for their wellness needs by providing exceptional services personalized treatments in a luxurious environment and our commitment to cleanliness and safety.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency helped build my presence within my market. I would post informative, engaging, and eye catching content to help build my trustworthiness. It has made a big difference especially today when the market is filled with new service providers and spas I am still a staple in the community for beauty.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
By leveraging a combination of strategies like word of mouth, online presence, partnerships and collabs with other businesses these strategies and continuously refining my approach based on feedback and results, has effectively attracted new clients to the spa and foster long-term relationships with them.
