We were lucky to catch up with Amber Deylon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Life is so precious! I choose to enjoy as much of it as I possibly can. Uniting my work life and play life is essential for my well-being. I consider myself a whole person even though parts of me have become fragmented through grief. Learning to embody love and service in all of my actions and interactions. Being in right relation and feeling full from how I show up and serve in the world. Some people don’t believe in following your heart in the work you do. I do my very best to follow my heart and intuition all of the time. It’s the feminine way of being in the world. Soft and fluid and it’s feeling really good. Another way I have harmonized my life is by taking heartbreak and creating from that need for community and connection to be held in the pain. That is how I became a death midwife. I took the training after my mom ended her life. Then I created Grieve and Breathe after my stepdad “Pops” died of cancer. Through the sorrow I chose to no longer suffer and instead create spaces for myself and others to be seen, heard and held through their grief journey.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Amber Deylon’s compassionate mission is to guide those facing life’s most profound challenges with grace and empathy. With her gentle yet profound approach, she stands as a beacon of support for the dying, their families, and their care circles.
Amber’s journey into end-of-life midwifery through the guidance of mentors Bridging Transitions was deeply personal, sparked by the loss of her beloved mother and followed by the passing of many cherished family and friends in her life. Through these heartbreaking experiences, she gained profound insights and a deep reservoir of empathy, which she now channels into supporting others through their own journeys of loss and transition.
In the realm of grief support, Amber’s touch is transformative. She tenderly holds space for individuals in their heartache, guiding them back to a place of love and gratitude. As a Grief Guide and Keynote Speaker, she shares her wisdom and insights, offering solace and understanding to those navigating loss.
At the heart of her offerings lives her new creation Love & Loss Podcast as well as Grieve + Breathe ceremonies where she intertwines ritual, breathwork, and heartfelt storytelling to illuminate the human experiences of grief, pain, and ultimately, love.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
WORD OF MOUTH! References and referrals are by far the most heartfelt and real expressions of truth for what I do. The work I share is extremely personal and intimate. Clients are going through some of the hardest challenges of their lives. I have also found that sharing about my lived experience has also been beneficial in growing clientele.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
My heart is in it. I am immensely fulfilled by my offerings. I love what I am doing and the impact it is having. It feels meaningful and that is felt by others. I believe it is what creates success internally first and then externally.
