We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Cobelle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amber thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning to be an artist is a lifetime process. That’s what makes it so rewarding. It’s a journey that travels with you. I’ve come to the conclusion that creativity will happen when it’s needed. Of course, you push yourself for new ideas and inspiration but again, it’s just like life, you attain new skills when you find yourself in that position.
I’m a self taught artist, and every now and again I wonder if art school would have sped up my process. Would it have hurt or hindered who I am? Would it have changed my entire artistic course? There is no definite answer, obviously.
The skill that are essential in being artistic is to be a dreamer. Have inspiration flowing in your brain, be inspired by everything around you. Always be curious. Curiosity is the key to knowledge. Never stop learning, never stop trying and try new things.
Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a fine artist. I started out simply drawing by being inspired by things around me, usually music or books. I started out in simple pencil portraiture and it quickly evolved into realism. Never one to be satisfied, I started playing with paints. Finding myself very at home with watercolor, gouache and acrylic, I focus a lot on realistic classical paintings.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding is the pleasure of creation. It is incredible to me that I can pick up a pencil or paint something that people love, something I can be proud of. It’s such a gift that I can see an image in my mind and paint it into the world. There is so much that is rewarding about artistry, having people love and appreciate your efforts is forever humbling.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
That’s a great question but with such a simple answer. My goal is to have left grace and kindness in someone’s heart. To be the reason someone smiles, or thinks about life, or is moved to tears through relief and healing.
