We were lucky to catch up with Amber Brumfield recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amber thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
To be completely candid, navigating the landscape of entrepreneurship entails a myriad of ups and downs, especially when you’re just embarking on the journey. I count myself among those who are at the initial stages of this adventure. My business may only be a year old, but my passion for what I do knows no bounds. Each new project that comes my way fills me with an eagerness to dive in and get started. I wake up every morning brimming with excitement, ready to tackle the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. If I were confined to a mundane 9 to 5 job outside my chosen field, I know I would be utterly discontent.
However, in today’s economic climate, I’ve found myself striking a balance between pursuing my entrepreneurial dreams and maintaining stability through a conventional job. It’s a compromise I’ve made with myself. I have a clear vision of where I want to steer my business, and it necessitates a gradual transition towards full-time freelancing. Until then, I’m prepared to put in the hard work, even if it means juggling both roles simultaneously.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My journey into photography was inspired by a deep-rooted desire to provide safe spaces for self-expression and celebration. As a member of these communities, I recognized the need for representation and empowerment in the visual arts. Thus, Yellowhite Photography was born, with a mission to actively advocate for inclusivity and diversity.
I offer more than just photography services; I provide a platform for empowerment and celebration. Our commitment extends beyond capturing images; it’s about empowering individuals to embrace and showcase their unique stories with pride and authenticity.
my services encompass a wide range of photography, from portraits to events, with a focus on capturing the heart of each individual and community we serve. I aim to solve the problem of underrepresentation and lack of visibility by amplifying the voices and stories of marginalized groups.
What sets Yellowhite Photography apart is my unwavering dedication to creating an environment where individuals from the LGBTQ and Black communities feel seen, heard, and celebrated. I strive to foster a sense of belonging and empowerment through my work, creating lasting connections and beautiful memories for my clients.
I am most proud of the impact Yellowhite Photography has had in providing representation and visibility to communities that are often marginalized in mainstream media. I want my work to serve as a beacon of hope and empowerment, inspiring others to embrace their identities and tell their stories unapologetically.
For potential clients and followers. I want you to know that Yellowhite Photography is not just a service; it’s a movement. By choosing my brand, you become part of a community that values and celebrates diversity, inclusivity, and the richness of stories within the LGBTQ and Black communities.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Long story short, keep posting your work even when it feels like no one is watching. It all comes together in the end focus on your portfolio not the numbers…
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I find inspiration not only in traditional management and entrepreneurial resources but also in art and culture that resonate with my identity as an artist. Lately, I’ve been deeply moved and inspired by a few works that have significantly influenced my thinking.
“Black Art In The Absence Of Light” is a captivating documentary available on Max that delves into the profound impact of Black artists on the art world. It’s a compelling exploration that sheds light on the richness and depth of Black artistic expression throughout history.
For those who appreciate the Y2K era and black queer nostalgia, “Shakedown” by Leilah Weinraub is a must-watch film. This documentary provides a fascinating glimpse into the vibrant world of a black lesbian club, offering a profound and intimate portrayal of community, identity, and self-expression.
And when I simply want to surround myself with music and vibes from around the globe, I turn to “Book Club Radio” on YouTube. This platform features talented DJs who curate eclectic playlists, Curating the perfect soundtrack for creative inspiration.
These resources not only inform my artistic endeavors but also shape my management and entrepreneurial philosophy by reminding me of the power of storytelling, community, and authenticity. They inspire me to approach my work with creativity, empathy, and a deep appreciation for people around the globe.
