We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amber Broder a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amber thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents, especially my father, have been the biggest supporters of not only my current business but all the dreams and passions I pursue. The biggest thing they did right was making it safe to fail – that trying something and making a mistake, or having it not go to plan, was better than not trying at all. The confidence that comes from knowing I had a safe place to turn to if I failed is a big part of why I’m able to take risks, like starting a business while I was still in college.
Amber, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
ABC Social Media Management offers social media management and strategy consulting to businesses in the interior design & vacation rental space, although we do have clients in other industries. We specialize in Instagram strategy, content & engagement, with plans to expand into other platforms in 2023.
What sets our work apart from other social media managers and agencies is that social media has been a part of my life since I was in sixth grade. I’ve always had a passion for being creative and telling stories, and from running a photography page to performing in every theatre production through middle & high school, to a year-long fellowship in email marketing, a three-year stint as an influencer & blogger, and my penultimate job before I struck out on my own, a marketing internship with a skincare brand, I live & breathe social media and storytelling. We also emphasize a totally authentic, community-focused approach; We don’t chase numbers for the sake of numbers, and help our clients see sustainable, meaningful growth on their profiles.
When I think of what I’m most proud of, it’s the results ABC Social Media Management deliver for our clients – not only the increases in their reach and following and the high-quality content we publish for them, but even more importantly the relief they get from the stress social media can cause.
If you’re looking for someone to take Instagram off your plate and make growing your community on social media feel fun & easy, I’d love to chat!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
All of my current clients have either found me through my Instagram portfolio, or through referrals. This fact highlights the importance of community. I believe you shouldn’t just accumulate a long list of account handles in your following, but talking to & getting to know the people who decided to pay attention to what you’re sharing. I pride myself on chatting to everyone who follows me at least once. Related to building community on Instagram, I’ve taken some of those connections off of the platform and built up a network that I’m able to lean on, turn to for support, and who send business opportunities my way (and I return the favor when I can!)
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
ABC Social Media Management clients all have a private Slack channel, in addition to being able to reach me via email. They hear from us regularly, with insights on their account, when content is ready to review, and whenever they might support or feedback on work related to the marketing of their business.
I’m very fortunate to have clients who have been with me for long periods of time (one just hit a full year with ABC Social Media Management!) and I think that loyalty comes down to three key things: making all processes as smooth and easy for clients as possible, anticipating needs where we can, and adding in surprises that they don’t expect (such as onboarding gifts, extra content, etc.)
