We were lucky to catch up with Amber Bisek recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I’m confident the key to success in any business is being authentic and creating the ability to naturally connect with your audience/ideal customer. You have to know how they think and understand how they show up to support your business, Connection and relatability are the key to success.

Amber, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Amber and Pat took over ownership of Board and Brush Woodbury a little over two years ago! The studio has been in the local community for over 7 years in total now!
Amber was an International Business major at the University of Minnesota – Moorhead and Patrick studied Industrial Engineering at the University of Minnesota – Duluth and while both have full time careers during the day, they poor their hearts into the pockets of down time to fulfill their love of facilitating others having a great experience to talk about for years to come. B&b Woodbury was the perfect opportunity!
While Amber manages the staff, marketing and community events for the most part, Patrick has always been more of the handy man and DIYer of the two, so he is focused on the inventory and back of the studio to ensure all workshops run smoothly! Together they were immediately drawn to the opportunity to work together and feed off each other’s strengths for a successful next chapter in their lives!
Amber and Pat love to keep busy, so as their boys have grown up and needed them less frequently, they were looking for a new way to direct those creative energies and to also meet new people. When they stumbled upon Board & Brush Woodbury, they immediately knew it was a perfect fit!
Amber and Pat have two sons, Noah and Brayden, plus two dogs, Gunnar and Hudson. Travel, food, and good times with friends and family are a few of their favorite things…always with a good laugh involved!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being authentic to your client base is essential for building trust and fostering long-term relationships. When businesses present themselves honestly, align their actions with their values, and communicate transparently, it creates a sense of reliability that resonates with customers. This authenticity helps to differentiate a brand in a competitive market and attracts clients who share similar values or appreciate genuine, consistent service. Over time, this establishes a strong foundation for business success, as customers feel valued and understood. By staying true to who you are as a brand, you not only meet your clients’ expectations but also create a loyal community that will advocate for your business, leading to sustainable growth and stability. That was very important to me, so I have tried extra hard to get more involved with the local community schools, sports teams and churches, as well as fundraising opportunities to give back to the community! As a small business we need our community support, but nothing feels better when we can return the favor and show our gratitude by giving a small portion back. A win win for the community!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Referrals and repeat clients are invaluable sources of new business for sure!! These often lead to more personal connections and sustained growth overtime. Satisfied clients who return for future experiences, not only provide consistent revenue, but also serve as credible advocates, sharing their positive experiences within their networks. This word-of-mouth marketing is extremely powerful; people trust referrals from individuals they know. I love meeting new people and finding out why they came, the word is smaller than you think!
