Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amber & Billy Jordan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amber & Billy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In 2018 we were planning our wedding and had already completed 2 years as wedding photographers together.
We had a couple friends who were also wedding photographers and they had photo booth companies that accompanied their photography service packages. They offered to show us how to do it in true “Community over competition” and we decided to invest into our first Photo Booth Model.
And guess where our first event was held, we mentioned we were planning our own wedding [*wink wink]. It was at our own wedding and let me tell ya, our guests had such a blast and really left us with some creative photos that we made into a scrap book lol!
Amber & Billy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are a husband and wife team of wedding photographers working under the business name “Amber Linn Photography”. We have been in the industry and working for six years. In that amount of time, Amber has successfully created a delicious amount of friends, colleagues and networked with some of the most fantastically talented creatives we have ever met! One of our friends who is a wonderful Photographer offered up an opportunity to buy her photo booth.
We both took the opportunity without any hesitation. From there we decided we should create a niche and we found a beautiful 1963 Tiffany Blue Santa Fe Travel Trailer for sale and we decided we should create a mobile photo booth trailer company and shortly after, Billy picked up a vintage Army foot locker at a Flea Market in Arizona and converted it into a free standing, open air photo booth that can really fit so many design and decor themes such as boho and rustic…and the rest is HISTORY!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Recently we’ve been sharing time between Arkansas and California and let me tell you… it’s hard building a business somewhere where the market does not value event vendors. We aren’t saying that the South absolutely hates vendors, but there’s definitely a want vs need mentality and they usually have a lot lower budget for a unique service such as ours.
So in turn we have bundled up our booth with our wedding photography packages and offer them in Southern California, Dallas Ft Worth area, Memphis and Nashville Tennessee and also Iowa (yes we said Iowa). Our dream would be able to eventually service the East Coast as well, Especially Boston, NY, Florida and anywhere there is rich history since we love to travel!
Our pivot of combining businesses into one event investment package has definitely been beneficial since Amber can run the Photography and I can just run the booth all at the same event!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Yes we’d love to share our secret sauce! We always start to build our presence within our industry and that specifically starts with outreaching to vendors! We also love to contribute to styled shoots, and since Amber is already a photographer we enjoy taking quality photos and posting them up!
We noticed that posting anything bright and vibrant tends to catch the eye of the 8 second attention spans online and so does video so we love doing tiktoks and reels!
Use searchable hashtags and the captions should be searchable too! Above all talk to your social media audience like you know them, like they are your friends and stop being such a sales pitch! Unfortunately our online presence does need more work, but Amber loves to dive in between her networking group the Searcy Society, her own Photography account Amber Linn Photography and mine, Wild + Free Booth (IG: @wildandfreebooth) so follow us to see us grow, expand and do more traveling to out of state events!
