We recently connected with Amber Barnes and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I started off taking classes at Nash Central High School and I was taking Drama classes for fun. I was not as serious about it back then but I really enjoyed being on front stage and being able to play different roles. Performing naturally and knowing your character and who they are was critical to putting on a great performance. After high school I was back and forth between balancing multiple jobs and trying to get into the medical field. This all took place after I enlisted in the Navy as an Hospital Corpsman then got out. I had a lot going on.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As you all know I’m an Actress, Brand Ambassador, Model, Assistant Director, and Entrepreneur of A&A Deluxe Spa which will be in the works soon and Mom. I’ve been a lot of movies whether they was shorts, features, independent films, web-series including tv shows and so forth. I’m also currently working for Parade (lingerie & clothes brand) while balancing my medical job dealing with multiple patients a day. I have a very busy lifestyle but all in all I wouldn’t of made it this far if it wasn’t for the man above! I thank God everyday for carrying me this far and allowing me to grow as an artist and a person. I’m still learning who I am and with that comes alot of battles I deal with internally but I don’t let it stop me from pushing forward. Just like anybody else I took classes and studied my craft on YouTube and in books. I’m currently taking classes with Vas Saranga. I use to work as background and do free work but that was until I was able to know the ins and outs of filming and the industry. After that I started doing small roles and eventually moved on up to bigger roles. I got an agency and started booking mainstream projects and now I’m just auditioning every week and staying busy. I recently did a fashion show with Vivica A Fox as the celebrity host! Shout out to Latoya Scott for giving me the opportunity! It was amazing especially after being away from the runway for a while. I was able to grace the stage with some dope designers like MCW Original, Marcellus collection, Studio B, K Charles Collection, and Damien Lee. I’m also in a few upcoming featured films called Black Sheep with Director LeMark Butler, Coma Couch, Motion picture The Gospel of Ted, Lifetime Movie with leading role called Meet, Marry, Murder, and Faded Ink with Director Yah Battle and so many other amazing films I’m in. I have a bad cold right now so lol anybody who wants to look at my work just follow my social media platforms and they will be up there or IMDB. Shout out to Director Nelson J Davis too because I’m in a few of his films. The latest one is Ladies Choice currently on TUBI and SlingTV and other platforms.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to leave my medical job and become a full time actress but even if I end up being stuck as a medical worker, I would like for it to be part time only. I want to live comfortably where my family and beautiful daughter is cared for and would never have to worry about hardships. I want to be able to give back to my community and bless my Mom (Lisa Barnes) with a place where she does not have to pay bills. The house is paid for. All these things is what I want. Between blessing my friends and my family that is what’s pushing me! When my daddy (Willie Arrington) and brother (Quintin Barnes) died I was heartbroken and still is so I want to be sure that my mom and sister is okay.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
People seeing who I am and being able to watch me perform is rewarding. Money is good but I just want to be recognized all over the world. I want to be able to network with top celebrities and build my brand. What’s even more rewarding is my beautiful daughter (Autumn Bell) watching me and taken notes. I want her to understand nothing comes easy. I’m teaching her how to be strong and independent but I want her to be better then me as a person. School doesn’t teach you how this life is and what goes on in these streets. I have to teach her everything I’ve learned and all the hardships because she deserves to know that with rewards it takes a lot of sacrifices and struggles but if she keeps God and her faith close to her she will overcome her obstacles. I’ve also have wonderful friends who supports me nonstop and it’s rewarding for my besties to truly be there for me and believe in me and my dreams.
