Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amari Paff. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amari, appreciate you joining us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
I wish I would have started my business sooner and believed in myself/ had the confidence to get out on my own! I officially started my business in 2022 and I think I would’ve started a year earlier when I first thought about it and when I first knew I would be able to make it happen. I think I would’ve learned the lessons I’ve already and gotten more of a head start for the plane I have for the future!
Amari, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started out doing only lash extensions out of school, then I slowly added other services like facials, body sculpting, derma planing, lash lifts, and brow lamination. I got into the industry when I was 18 years old and I’ve been through multiple jobs in the industry! I’ve learned so many lessons that have gotten me where I am now and I’m so grateful for every job I had before having my own business. Im happy with the way I’ve branded myself so far in my career- I’m young, but not too young for older clients that want to come to me as well. My brand is super fun and girly and I love to make every experience unique and have all of my clients feel loved and special when they leave my suite!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first got out of beauty school I worked at a chain company for facials and I thought that was going to be my start to success, it turns out that it actually almost set me back in some ways! I did learn good people skills and I learned how I wanted to talk to my clients and how I wanted to form relationships, but I didn’t feel like I had any clients of my own because of where I was working. I ended up getting fired from that job because I didn’t reach my sales goal for the month by 2 sales. I was so discouraged I almost went back to school again and changed career paths completely, but my family helped me see through the tough times and reminded me that nothing good comes easy! I’m so glad I didn’t switch careers.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I worked more than ever to reach my goal amount to start my business. I was working 6 days a week most weeks 8/9am-9/10pm I wanted to have enough money to fund my business and still have some wiggle room without being in debt so I saved and saved until I felt comfortable going into business by myself
