Amari , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that having a clear aim or vision, being risk-taking, having a strong work ethic, and having a solid support system are all necessary for success. Additionally, it’s critical to be flexible and open to learning from your failures because, as you progress along your journey, you will discover that your mistakes don’t define you; they make you. It is crucial to be adaptable and eager to learn from your failures. Additionally, I believe it’s critical to have a positive outlook and a good work-life balance.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Amari Franks i am a 20 year old nail tech from Houston tx and this January made one year for me in the nail industry ! I specialize in acrylic nails. I started off doing my mom and sisters nails at home and quickly realized it was my passion and with the help of them i am now a full time nail tech ! I am most proud of how resilient i have been in this whole journey how many times i could’ve and desperately wanted to give up but didn’t and that’s what matters most!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
when I first created my business account, it was similar to any other new Instagram account. However, I was aware that I needed to make my page “aesthetically pleasing,” so I created a booking website, acquired a professional logo, and took high-quality photographs before just starting to post. The followers began to appear, of course, but slowly and at the time slowly wasn’t an option for me because I knew I had expectations for my business. I had to come up with another strategy to increase exposure, so I got business cards and distributed them throughout my city and engaged in promotion with influencers and other local businesses. Soon after, I began to gain an increasing number of followers, but I still wasn’t happy because I felt like my company wasn’t “known” enough, so I went back to the drawing board. After realizing that people can’t book with you if they don’t even know you, I started getting a little more personal with my company. I now interact with my followers as if they were my friends and make them feel at ease before they even sit down in the chair. As far as advise goes, maintaining consistency across all of your platforms will be your best friend when it comes to growing your audience on social media. Even if you don’t think anything is worthy of sharing, post it anyhow. Continue posting because someone will be watching and enjoy what you do!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I started working in the nail industry, I heard the advice “don’t miss an opportunity, say yes to everyone” frequently. I believe that people have a tendency to overcommit in the early stages of their careers out of a fear of failing. Me, on the other hand, quickly discovered that timing is everything. If it is not the right moment for me to meet this person right now, then i am alright passing you up because I believe that something greater is in store for me and that when I do have a significant opportunity, I am prepared in every way. Things that are for me will respect my time, my health, and my business, I had to learn.
