Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amaranta Martinez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amaranta, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve done has been a mural I did for Ruth K. Bay Harbor K-8 Elementary School. After the collapse of the Surfside condos, like many people in South Florida, I was affected emotionally even though I didn’t lose a loved one.
During those days I was thinking about how could I help or get involved to help in some way. Finally, the day came when I was contacted by the PTA of the school asking me if I wanted to design a mural for the school as a Memorial for the families that lost their children.
I created a colorful and beautiful mural that I made especially for these children. It was a very meaningful project and I’m so glad that I could use my talent as a gift to those families that have suffered so much.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Amaranta Martinez AKA Superama. I was born in Caracas but I’ve been living in Miami for 20 years. I have 11-year-old twin boys, born and raised in Miami. My husband is from Nicaragua, my dad from Colombia, my mom is from Venezuela. So you can say that we are a very normal family from Miami.
My career took off when I became the Art Director for Nickelodeon Latin America. That’s when my love for animation and illustration grew. Working for an amazing and creative brand like Nickelodeon changed my life.
After I got pregnant with twins in 2010, I decided to quit my job but I still worked with Nickelodeon for special projects. During that time I decided to create SUPERAMA, my personal brand. Where I help clients to make their brand more attractive and visible for their future clients in a creative way.
Since then I have worked for clients like Apple, Viacom, Payless Shoes, Orange Theory, and Verizon here in South Florida, making and creating murals, illustrations, and digital content.
I’m proud to say that after more than 10 years I have a beautiful community of creatives that support my work and inspire me to keep going. I’m also very grateful to have a strong relationship with all my clients that give me the freedom to create for them with my vision and passion.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As an immigrant when I first arrived in this country was not easy as you can imagine. I had several jobs and they were not creative at all. I had to make ends meet working in a shoe store. I didn’t feel good about myself because I knew I didn’t want to sell shoes for the rest of my life. I know many people can relate to an experience like this.
At that time I felt lost, I didn’t know what else to do, but I was convinced that I wanted to create and keep creating. I didn’t know many people in the creative or entertainment industry, so It was very hard and frustrating thinking that you are not going anywhere.
But I kept going and doing my art and creative projects on the side, until one day someone gave me the opportunity. I never gave up. I didn’t believe in myself (that’s what people always suggest you do, but they don’t tell you how to do it), but I kept going. Passion, perseverance and hard work always pay off.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think is a great opportunity for an artist to show their talent to the world, connect with creative people from different backgrounds, and also make a profit.
I had the opportunity to design my first NFT Collection for an amazing community here in South Florida called WEB 3 EQUITY. They provide a network & resources for women investors, collectors, and creators.
The name of the collection is called TUTTLE TRIBE inspired by Julia Tuttle “The Mother of Miami”. This is the only major US city that was founded by a woman.
