We were lucky to catch up with Amarachi Okafor recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amarachi, thanks for joining us today. Can you share an important lesson you learned in a prior job that’s helped you in your career afterwards?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned in my professional career is the importance of being assertive. I’ve experienced workplace burnout and toxic environments that left me struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, and hair loss. Through those challenges, I realized that if you don’t speak up and advocate for yourself, no one else may do it for you.
As a mental health professional, I’ve also learned that if I don’t prioritize my own well-being, I can’t effectively support my clients. Beyond assertiveness, setting boundaries—especially learning to say “no”—is essential. Saying “no” isn’t a negative thing; it’s a form of self-preservation. It grants you the freedom to choose, protect your energy, and maintain your capacity to help others without sacrificing yourself in the process.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a mental health nurse practitioner, and my journey into the field of mental health was deeply personal-I was driven by my own struggles with anxiety. That experience inspired me to create Mentally Fit, a wellness brand dedicated to providing intentional, safe spaces where women can nourish both their minds and bodies while feeling seen, heard, and empowered to take charge of their well-being.
I founded this brand because, as adults, it can be challenging to build meaningful friendships and find true community. I wanted to create a space where women could grow, learn, and connect through engaging conversations and immersive experiences that support both mental and physical wellness.
WHAT SETS US APART
Mentally Fit is more than just a wellness brand-it’s a community-driven movement backed by evidence-based practices. What makes us unique: We host a diverse range of events tailored to different interests and needs, we integrate proven mental health and wellness strategies into everything we do, we curate safe intimate spaces that allow for genuine connection and self-growth, and we provide personalized touches and meaningful takeaways to make each experience impactful.
WHAT I’M MOST PROUD OF
The most fulfilling part of Mentally Fit is the lasting impact we’ve had on women’s lives-the friendships formed, the confidence gained, and the supportive communities built through our events. Seeing women show up for themselves, take ownership of their wellness, and connect with like-minded individuals is what fuels my passion for this work.
This is more than wellness-it’s a movement toward self-care, self-growth, and self-empowerment.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective way to grow your clientele is by staying authentic to your brand’s mission and staying rooted in your “why”. When your purpose is clear and your values align with your offerings, you naturally attract the right audience who resonate with your vision.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first created Mentally Fit, I was driven by my passion for mental health, fitness, and giving voice to women by creating a safe space for them to gather and learn from one another. What I did not anticipate was how challenging it would be to build a brand from the ground up while navigating my own personal and professional responsibilities.
There were moments where I doubted myself, when event turnouts weren’t what I expected and when the weight of balancing my roke as an entrepreneur and a mental health nurse practitioner felt overwhelming. But everytime I questioned whether I should keep going I remembered my “why” – the reason I started.
One moment that stands out was after an event where a woman pulled me aside and said “I didn’t realize how much I needed this.” That conversation reaffirmed everything for me. It wasn’t about numbers or perfection-it was about impact.
Resilience, for me, has been about leaning into my purpose even when things feel uncertain. It’s about trusting the process, adapting to challenges, and staying committed to the women who need this space- because i’ve been that woman, too.
