We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amar Bhuee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amar, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I wish I started my creative career earlier, but I’ve gained invaluable experiences and connected with incredible individuals along the journey.
For over 15 years, I’ve been immersed in the world of art, balancing it with various day jobs to make ends meet. Despite the challenges, I always knew my heart belonged to my craft, envisioning it as my eventual full-time pursuit.
Throughout the years, my artistry has flourished, and my skills have matured. Back in 2019, I finally took the leap, leaving behind my day job to focus solely on my craft and small business. Since then, I haven’t looked back. I’m in love with what I do, only wishing I had embraced this path sooner.
Turning my passion into my primary occupation has been immensely rewarding. I’m filled with joy and gratitude to work with clients who entrust me with creating meaningful keepsakes. It’s a privilege to bring their visions to life and contribute to their cherished memories.
Amar, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Amar Bhuee- Wearable & Displayable Art to honour memories. Over the years my work has evolved but the one thing I have stayed true to is telling a story and capturing moments in my work.
People keep things for a reason – they are meaningful to them. Most of the time they get tucked away and forgotten about. I make pieces of art that can be incorporated into your everyday. Honour your memories: the places you have traveled, the people you have known, and the special events that make up your life.
I aim to help you create one of a kind, handcrafted keepsakes that can be admired and appreciated. I want to help you through the many processes in life, whether it is to Celebrate, to Grieve or to Remember.
My purpose is to touch hearts, ignite emotions, & remind us all of the profound meanings that lay within our precious memories.
My work is 100% handmade at my studio in Cambridge. From preparing the glass (cut and ground), to the flowers being pressed & designed. I also custom make my own metal frames. Truly one of a kind, custom made to order, just for you!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The best part of being an artist is knowing that my creations help others in their journeys.
It’s an honour to be entrusted with something so significant. Whether it’s helping someone celebrate, aiding in the grieving process, or allowing others to reflect and find joy in a moment, these moments are why I do what I do.
I believe I was meant to celebrate, grieve, and remember with others, which is why my work is so fulfilling.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
As I navigated my way through the creative community, I realized I had to let go of the idea that I must appeal to everyone.
While I wish I could collaborate with everyone who approaches me, sometimes I have to recommend other artists if their style better suits the client’s taste.
My work embodies a vintage, classic, and romantic aesthetic, which many love, but isn’t universal.
The purpose of my business is to help others cherish their memories every day, so it’s essential that my creations bring joy to those who wear or display them.
I’ve also come to understand that comparing one’s journey to others in the Floral Preservation industry is fruitless. Each person progresses at their own pace and success comes to those who have a genuine passion for what they do.
I try to look at what I do as a community and not competition which is powerful when you start to understand that.
