We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Vilar recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
We all experienced COVID in our unique ways. If you break it down, the word “COVID” can be seen as: CO (together) and VID (to watch). For me and many others, it turned out to be one of the most transformative periods of our lives. Being stuck at home felt like we were all in a cocoon, really focusing on what truly matters and finally having the time and space to make real changes.
I watched many people start rethinking their careers, friendships, and taking the leap toward the life they’d always dreamed of. As for me, even though I loved being a coach, having my three second graders at home all day long made me realize there were parts of my parenting that needed some TLC. So, I decided to pause my coaching practice and dive into learning more about parent coaching. This included everything from nervous system regulation and developmental benchmarks for different age groups to attachment styles and effective communication. I quickly grasped the basics and got hands-on practice (times three!) immediately.
It was a lot to take in, but I’m the kind of person who goes all in—120% or nothing. What I really wanted was to teach. I yearned for community, the missing link. As I connected with more holistically minded providers, I realized the final step in supporting our local moms was community. Providers who resonated with our mission joined in, sharing their knowledge. Some began teaching, while others helped organize events. I created a virtual community space as well as in-person gatherings to support moms of all phases and stages in receiving the care and community we all deserve.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
This whole journey has been totally heart-driven. No icky sales tactics or marketing tricks here. I believe when you start a business, it’s about filling a real need in the community, and every step is a learning curve. Sometimes we find out we need to set better boundaries, other times we realize our own worth, and occasionally we need to pivot because we’re unintentionally mirroring someone else’s path. Our professional journey usually reflects our personal growth—slow and steady wins the race, right?
In our community, we’ve got amazing women practitioners and providers who do business in their own unique way. We support each other, lift each other up, and create genuine, heart-centered connections. We don’t do competition; we collaborate and grow together.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Authenticity. Honestly, the most effective strategy for growing our village has been all about building genuine connections and community. We’ve focused on creating a space where moms feel supported and heard, both online and in person. It’s all about collaboration instead of competition—we work with amazing women practitioners and providers who share our heart-centered approach. Word of mouth has been huge for us too; when moms find value in our community, they naturally spread the word. Keeping things real and centered on shared experiences has really helped us grow and serve.
