We recently connected with Amanda Ventura and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
My mom always sold Avon growing up, and I was always helping. I would help write the receipts up, fill the bag and staple it all shut. My mom would drive around everywhere and I’d run up to put the Avon books and a little handwritten letter on the doors. It was fun waiting to see who would actually look through and give us a call. I looked forward to that time spent with her and playing with all of the beauty products. I always gravitated toward the skincare, it felt like that was the foundation for it all. I remember being so young and applying face cream and makeup to my cousins and sisters. I loved to make people smile when they saw their own reflection, there’s something so special in that moment. Looking back on those memories, I realize that my path was already choosing me. In middle school, my science fair project was based on skincare and what worked for the skin types and concerns of my friends. (I’d love to read what I actually wrote because who did I even think I was?!)
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After high school, I went to Rizzieri in Marlton New Jersey for skincare specialist, and I have literally been in love since. This ain’t just my career this is my absolute passion. It’s more than just scrubbing off the dead skin, it’s more than me applying serums to your face. Everything I do in the treatment room is meticulously curated for my clients skin types + concerns. The love and healing I pour into each person is different. The small prayer and intention I hold in my heart during each treatment is different. Every single face is a new canvas. I have never had two clients with the same skin ever. I have worked in corporate places and I have worked in mom + pop shops. Each have their pros and cons, so after my father passed away in 2014 I decided that life was too short and I wanted to work for myself. I loved my first little spot. It was a small 600 sq ft suite with beautiful light for a jungle of plants and perfect darkness for a super relaxing facial treatment. We grew from there by word of mouth. Just giving excellent customer service and spa experiences that left people feeling relaxed and comfortable, confident and beautiful. Then, with the help of both of my amazing sisters and my amazing team of women, who inspire me daily, we grew and continue to grow. We are one big family. From the women I work with to the clients who come in to all of their family members that stop in for gifts and treats for them, all family. Every single person who walks into our door becomes instant family, and if you ever visit yourself you will instantly know why. We are more than a spa, we are a safe space for healing for everyone.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I have been licensed for nearly 16 years now. I have worked in this area for a long time and I am so fortunate to have the book of clients (family) that I have, but I did work hard to get here. I still work extremely hard to stay here. The service and treatments we provide are otherworldly. I have a team of women who are consistent in the love they give to every single one of the people who walk through our door. We provide amazing customer service. It is all in the details.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
We were doing so well, it felt like we were finally getting somewhere for everyone else building their own books. And then the world shut down. We were out for 4 months I think it was?! I didn’t know what any of this would look like after. Would the spa even still be there? The answer was yes. It had to be. So I did retail sales, I drove around and dropped off orders (reliving my Avon days with my mom) I formed Facebook groups for Gua Sha Massage, it wasn’t just about the massage it was about still building our community, bringing our community together like we used to. It was not giving up. I have two small children and I want them to see and know what putting the effort in looks like. I want them to see what not giving up looks like. They’re a part of this whole thing too. My son asked me last week on our way to the spa “Mommy will your friends be there?” I smiled as I teared up and said “always.”
