Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Tracy
Hi Amanda, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been enthusiastically helping women navigate hormone changes and improve their health and wellbeing since becoming a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) in 2005.
To begin my career, I spent 16 years as part of an award-winning women’s wellness center in Massachusetts. In 2021, coinciding with a move from Massachusetts to Northern California wine country, I decided to take my expertise online and transitioned my practice to focus specifically on supporting women through perimenopause and menopause using telemedicine and group programs. I now work with women virtually, guiding them through the often-chaotic effects of hormone fluctuations associated with perimenopause and menopause. Drawing on my clinical expertise and personal experience, my tailored programs and compassionate one-on-one sessions empower women over 40 to address frustrating symptoms like hot flashes, sleepless nights, anxiety, digestive issues and stress.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Well, I wasn’t always in the great health that I enjoy today. When I was younger, I had a real battle with my periods. They were all over the place, and no matter how many doctors I saw or tests I took, I kept hearing, “Everything’s fine.” It was frustrating, to say the least. But it lit a fire in me to really dig into women’s health when I became a naturopathic doctor.
I tried everything – natural therapies, herbs, you name it. But it wasn’t until I went all-in on a plant-based diet, got serious about managing my stress, and made sleep a non-negotiable that things finally clicked. In my 30s and 40s, I finally had regular periods. It felt like a miracle (although I knew first hand the time and effort that actually went into creating this miracle).
Then, right before I turned 40, life threw me a curveball. I was burning the candle at both ends, working crazy hours, and thought I could push through. I remember driving home one night, dead tired but excited about a surprise trip with my boyfriend, Joe. I told myself, “When we get back, I’m taking a break.”
After that trip, I crashed. Hard. For months, I was dealing with one infection after another, my hair was falling out, and I couldn’t sleep to save my life. Even my periods, which I’d worked so hard to regulate, went haywire. It was a real wake-up call!
I had to take a good, hard look at what was going on in my life – my work, my stress, my food, my exercise routine, sleep pattern, everything. I dove headfirst into understanding how stress, sleep, and hormones are all tied together. It was a challenging road to out it all together and maintain a busy practice, but it changed everything – not just for me and my perspective on wellness, but for how I practice medicine and run my business now.
Going through all that gave me a whole new perspective on what my patients are dealing with. Now, when a woman sits across from me and talks about her struggles despite “doing everything right as far as diet and exercise”, I get it. I’ve been there.
And you know what’s funny? I ended up moving to the same place Joe and I went on that trip years ago – right here in Northern California wine country. Life has a way of coming full circle, doesn’t it?
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a doctor, but not your typical primary care doctor or gynecologist. I’m a licensed Naturopathic Doctor that uses traditional holistic strategies along with more modern integrative and functional medicine to help women who are going through “the change” – when periods get weird and eventually stop.
I’m all about helping women over 40 feel good again. And I mean, really good – not just the end of symptoms – I want to help you get your body, mind, and spark back.
My practice specializes in helping high achieving women in their 40s and 50s who are struggling with all the crazy symptoms that come with this time in life and frankly, don’t have the time or energy for it! I’m talking about successful career women – maybe you run your own business, you’re a lawyer, work in tech, or you’re the in the C-suite – you’re a highly trained, experienced expert in your field and you want the same in your doctor.
If you’re dealing with annoying symptoms and want real, holistic and integrative, evidence-based solutions that actually work for you and your lifestyle, I’m your doctor. I don’t just slap a band-aid on things. I dig deep to figure out what’s really going on and come up with a plan that’s just for you.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One lesson I have learned over the years is the importance of making sure there’s a good fit between myself and a potential patient before we begin working together. When there’s a mismatch, it’s like trying to force a square peg into a round hole. Nobody wins. The patient doesn’t get the care they deserve, and I can’t do my job as well as I know I can.
That’s why I’m always upfront about who I work best with. I want my patients to feel like we’re a team, working together towards their health goals. If that connection isn’t there, or if our approaches to health just don’t line up, it’s better for both of us to recognize that early on.
It’s not about being picky or exclusive. It’s about making sure that when I work with someone, we can really make magic happen. That way, everyone gets the most out of the relationship. The patient gets the care they need, and I get to do what I do best – help women feel awesome again.
