We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Taylor. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think each person has their own definition of what success is to them. Whether it’s owning a multi-million dollar company, having the freedom to spend time with family, being debt free, traveling, doing something you love, or simply feeding your family, success looks different to everybody.
In my opinion success at anything takes perseverance, adaptability and humility. Most journeys of success are not congruent, they are a series of constant ups and downs, highs and lows. You have to be willing to persevere and stick with it through the low periods, adapt to the fact that it’s ever-changing, and be able to humble yourself during the highs. Don’t get too comfortable when things are good and always be prepared for your situation to change.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Amanda Taylor, I am a singer and real estate agent based in Nashville, TN a.k.a “Your Tn Singing Realtor.”
I grew up in a musical family in Fort Wayne Indiana and started singing with our family band at age 15, so Nashville had been a dream of mine from early on. I moved to Nashville in 2005 and attended Belmont University. After graduating, I alongside my lead-guitarist mother, formed our band “The Taylors & The Mama Tried Band.”
Throughout the years we have played regularly at multiple lower Broadway and Nashville tourist venues, performed live on the legendary WSM Radio, were featured performers at The Country Music Hall of Fame and more. In 2019 we were featured in a Nashville WSMV News Channel 4 segment for which the reporter won a Midsouth Emmy Award. He titled the segment after my original song called “Plans Change,” as the song and the feature story highlighted my mom and I continuing to play music together throughout her breast cancer journey.
Recently, we had the opportunity to act in an Acclaim Films movie called “My Perfect Love,” which was just released to streaming media. My mom (PaulaJo Taylor) is known as “The Viral Granny Guitarist,” after a video of her playing guitar garnered over 6 million views on social media and got the attention of Nikki Sixx and iHeart radio. PaulaJo has been featured on national television as a performer on “The Huckabee Show” and has been contacted by the producers of “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
I have always had the desire for multiple careers and income streams, so embracing my entrepreneurial spirit and a love of all things houses, I decided to jump into real estate. I had so many friends and acquaintances from the music world who became real estate clients, that I soon embraced merging my two worlds and that there was no better place than ‘Music City’ to be “Your Tn Singing Realtor.” Once I decided to go all in on developing my brand as the Tennessee Singing Realtor, the creative juices started flowing and led to me writing, recording and releasing a music video parody song of Miranda Lamberts “House that Built Me,” promoting my real estate.
I have been licensed now for over 6 years and am so grateful to have remained with a broker who has served as a mentor and teacher my entire career. In 2017 I was awarded the ‘Silver Level’ and ‘Million-Dollar Producer’ awards from my brokerage and in 2021 I was awarded the ‘Platinum Level’ and ‘Multi-Million Dollar Producer’ awards from my brokerage as well as the ‘Silver Level award of excellence’ from my Association. However, what I am most proud of in my career is the clients I have been blessed to have and how we as agents are able to form personal connections that go well beyond the sale. The aspect I most love and is the most rewarding is when a fan becomes a client and vice versa. I am excited and grateful for everything I have learned thus far and everything I have yet to learn and experience.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Can we say 2020? I think we all know that 2020 was a hard and uncertain year for numerous people in all kinds of fields. This was the same for both music and real estate.
Musically, 2020 was the first time we had ever seen venues on lower Broadway and throughout Nashville having to completely shut down and close their doors. Throughout the years and up until the pandemic shutdowns, we had been playing 4+ gigs per week on Broadway and around Nashville, all of which came to a screeching halt in March of 2020. It was a very scary and uncertain time. We had to pivot to doing online shows with virtual tip jugs to try to make money as well as trying to utilize social media more than we had been before. The clubs had to re-open in different stages according to covid protocols, so it took a very long time for things to get back to any sort of “normal.” Of course during the shutdowns, many clubs & venues either changed staff or did not re-open so we lost those gigs permanently. It has been two and a half years and we are just now getting some of our gigs back and having to build relationships with new venues and new booking agents.
Real estate wise, we had to make the change to more virtual protocols during that time as well. We had a lot of virtual showings start happening due to a client either having Covid, or not wanting to be out touring a home for risk of coming into contact with Covid. We had to change our protocols for cleanliness and social distancing of course much like many other businesses. It was definitely a time of pivoting and having to figure out new ways of conducting business, new ways of marketing and making sure that your client is comfortable. It was a trying time for sure, but we persevered and 2021 went on to become my best year thus far in real estate.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
I think one of my favorite marketing ideas/risks real estate wise, was the parody and corresponding music video I and my mother wrote to Miranda Lamberts’ song “House that built me,” It is always nerve-wrecking and risky when releasing something you have created artistically, as to how it will be perceived and anxiety of whether people will like it, whether it will be effective, etc. I knew I needed to do something big to try to create my brand and establish myself as ‘Your Tn Singing Realtor,’ but of course I was nervous as to how it would come across to others in the industry as well as potential clients. Now after the fact I am glad I did it and put myself out there as I believe it was received well to clients & friends and I have now had multiple magazines as well as a casting director reach out to me because of seeing my branding and the music video. Above all, I strive to do the best that I can for my clients and hope that they will find me worthy of their trust and I would love to get to a place where people think of ‘Your Tennessee Singing Realtor’ when they think Nashville real estate.
