We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Stubbs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
WildLife Nature Experience is a business started by me and my sister in 2019. She is a master naturalist and I am a state certified teacher. We both have a love for the outdoors and working with children, which is where the idea for WNE started, a totally unique program in our area.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit the U.S. in 2020, being outside was one of the few safe places for people to be. We started offering small group pods for children where they could complete school work, but also spend time outside (safely) socializing and enjoying nature. This was also the year we offered our first small group summer camps.
As schools slowly began to return to in-person learning, we had to switch gears and reassess what we were offering to families in our community. From there, we started offering programs like our “School’s Out Days” and other pop-up events. We were also able to purchase our 15 passenger van at the end of 2021 which really helped our business flourish.
Since then, we have continued with pop-up events and camps every summer, doubling in size. We take children to a variety of outdoors locations like state parks, beaches, and farms. While there we hike, explore, swim, play games, and craft. It is really inclusive to whole child development where they are constantly learning along the way and becoming better stewards of the planet.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Believing that nature plays a crucial role in developing the whole child. It is our mission to inspire curiosity, wonder, and a general love for the outdoors. We encourage children to be kind and respectful to each other and the environment. By providing a supportive and safe learning environment, children are able to grow at their own pace.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Ashley and I are sisters so we have grown up together our whole lives.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Our best source of new familes is word of mouth from existing families or friends and families we already know within our communities.
