Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda Sawyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
As a child I was always known as the art kid. If a group project needed an art portion, it was the only time I was not picked last. I was fine with that. I found comfort in drawing and in painting. As the years went by it became not only a hobby but part of my personality. I would take my sketch book and pencils where ever I went. In high school I started trading my art for comic books and by the end of my time in high school I was selling my art and getting commissioned for projects. I began trying to find out how I could take my passion and turn it into a career but ended up enlisting into the navy instead. During my time in boot camp I painted my divisions flag. Painting the flag that represented my division is still to this day one of the most meaningful projects I’ve completed.
Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve entered the art world as a way to escape and a form of expression. Recently after encouragement from friends and family I’ve taken to social media on Instagram under the user name Wyldcoltcrafts. This name is a mix of my son’s names. I’m just thankful for a platform to share my art and to encourage other artists to keep creating.
How did you build your audience on social media?
While my social media presence is still small and growing I have been able to grow by showing my art. I show the process that my paintings come to life to show others how I create my art and to encourage others to create. It also has given me the ability to work with other amazing artists and build a community.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can support artists by showcasing real art. AI art can be amazing in certain aspects but supporting real artists who have spent years on their craft is something society has full control over.
