We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Rubini a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Covid has brought about so many changes – has your business model changed?
I have absolutely learned a lot during this period of time. Not only lost my mind, going crazy of boredom! But I got to look into myself and see flaws that I can personally fix. That was such a learning curve to all of us in the industry. But instead of being bummed or upset, we all came together and helped each other whether it was food, safe company with puzzles, bike rides etc. it made my team come together as a family.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My mother let me rent this DVD called Coyote Ugly when I was 14ish, and my eyes lite up in awe. I wanted to dance and learn hospitality badly. I secretly audited and got the part as lead dance/bartender at the 18 in high school. I was making more money than my teachers at the time! If I could look back and tell my 18 year old self one advice, save your money don’t spend it because life happens! It was so fun dancing, entertaining, and bartending.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Absolutely o learned a lot! After working corporate jobs such as Hilton and marriot, etc. it took me a long time to accept and realize this. Explaining to my friends and family I feel indifferent about working for big companies. So my side hustle began with bartending and I learned a lot about fast cash. I had everything at the time, an Audi, a huge home, and a bragging right. Now, I am recently divorced and working my way up again. Life may hand you lemons, but make sure you love yourself first.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I am currently back into Mitch Albom, 5 people you meet in heaven is a great favorite. If I could do anything different, it would be to listen to your heart and soul, I want to try creative directing or hosting a TV show. No no no, not a bimbo podcast girl, an actual real directing. I am in the middle of writing my book and it is very healing to put a pen to paper and see what yyour brain creates.
