We recently connected with Amanda Robles and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My very first project I worked on is the most meaningful to me. Before I turned this hobby into a business, I was making a body butter for myself during pregnancy. As a new mom, I was very cautious of everything, including what I was putting on my skin. I began learning about the best natural products for your skin, the safest products to handle, and learned about bonding with my baby. Every morning and every night I would rub this body butter on my stomach and would sing or talk to my growing son. I’d feel his little flutters and kicks so it was a great bonding moment for us.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I’m Amanda and my son’s name is Oliver – Scrub with Love’s owners and operators. I do just about everything here – from website design, to social media, to packing and shipping.
A little about me: I was born in Austin, Texas, but moved all around since growing up a military brat! I have recently made Leander home for myself and Oliver. My absolute favorite things to do include adventures with Oliver, movie marathons, and just about anything involving crafting. When Oliver and I are not packaging orders, you can find us at the nearest park, adventuring throughout the city, or simply just hanging out with grandpa!
I started Scrub with Love in 2016 as a hobby while pregnant. I hated how expensive body butter products were and the hidden harsh chemicals. I created a body butter that I would apply morning and night, while talking or singing to
Oliver in my tummy. I wanted to continue to create products anyone else could enjoy, especially catered to pregnant women wanting to avoid stretch marks, so Scrub with Love was officially brought to life! I hope to give other mothers the opportunity to create the same bonding moment with their babies.
I am beyond proud of how far not only myself, but how far my son has come as well. Starting from a project to becoming a business, it’s been a pleasure watching Scrub with Love grow. It’s been such a great bonding moment with my son as well. From watching the bath bombs make cool colors, to being at vendor events together. Everything we do is out of love. Hence how I got the name Scrub with Love.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Support small businesses, farmers, and artists by going to vendor markets, craft shows, and pop up art shows! You’ll find the coolest crafts, best homemade food and treats, and freshest meat/produce! They’re absolutely everywhere every weekend. Even stopping to say hi puts the biggest smiles on our faces!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
It was definitely difficult to start my social media for my business. Of course my close friends and family followed me, but I wanted to share my story, my products, and so much more. I did small giveaways on my page and would pay to have the post boosted. I’d set the location all over the world. No where was off limits! At vendor events, I had a QR code visible. If they scan and follow me, they get 10% off. I also leave my business cards anywhere and everywhere!
