We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Pope recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of revenue or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
I believe it is important to give back to the community. One organization that is close to my heart is Kids Boost, This organization empowers and encourages children to give back to their community through acts of service, fundraising and other creative outlets. Each child is charged with creating their own philanthropic design and given $100 in start-up funding for a charity they love. Supported charities range from Atlanta Humane Society to Atlanta’s Children Shelter. It’s incredible to see the children turn $100 into more than $10,000. As an entrepreneur, I absolutely love this idea. A portion of each transaction I close, goes to support Kids Boost. I look forward to when my own children are old enough to participate in this philanthropy. I also give my support to the Atlanta Mission, as they provide services and care for the homeless population in Atlanta.

Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Prior to becoming a real estate agent I worked in many corporate jobs from financial services to an executive assistant. While those jobs were crucial in developing my work ethic, I always longed to be in more control of my career destiny. Once I decided to become a real estate agent, it did not take long for all the pieces to fall into place with leaving my job and landing at a great brokerage. My family, friends, and fellow agents were crucial at that time for helping to instill in me the confidence to believe in myself. In my first year as an agent, I was named Rookie of The Year. In 2020, I was fortunate to receive the Agent of the Year award for the Buckhead Northwest office. I closed 35 transactions, totaling almost $15 million in volume and was among the top 5% agents in Atlanta. I have continued to be among the top 5% agents in Atlanta for both volume and units every year since then. I attribute my success to my extensive network and the support of family, friends and mentors. I believe what sets me apart in this industry is that I treat my clients as family and strive to look after their best interests. I also try to over communicate throughout the entire process and even after the transaction is completed. Since this is the biggest purchase most people will make, the more information you have the better you will feel throughout the transaction.
While I have been fortunate to get accolades from my real estate career, my greatest success is being a mom to two wonderful daughters and a wife to my husband Shawn. They are my greatest joy and keep me grounded to myself and my community. Our family enjoys volunteering and being active members of Trinity Anglican Church.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Atlanta can be both a big city and a small city at the same time. I’m always amazed at how often I will run into the same people multiple times, especially when doing business, so maintaining an honest and trustworthy reputation is vital. The only way to build a solid reputation is time and experience. Having done nearly 100 transactions, I believe that I’ve established myself as someone my clients can trust. One thing that many people don’t realize is that a good reputation can secure your client a deal. I have seen first hand where in multiple offer situations, the listing agent has chosen my client’s offer over other offers that are stronger than ours. These listing agents encouraged their seller to work with us because they can trust our professionalism and can expect less hiccups then when dealing with other less experienced agents. Warren Buffet once said it takes 20 years to build a reputation and 5 minutes to ruin it. I try to keep this quote in my head and act with integrity and honesty when building the trust of my clients.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
To be successful at real estate, you have to continually grow and maintain your network. As an Atlanta-native and having lived in the city most of my life, I have had the benefit of having many life-long friends and family in the area. In fact, one of my first transactions was helping my in-laws relocate to Atlanta. My existing network prior to getting into real estate is such an integral part of growing my client base. Prior to becoming a REALTOR, I worked in financial services and as an executive assistant. Both roles allowed me to hone my client service skills and get to know the people I worked with very well. I have continued to keep in touch with past colleagues and love doing business with people that I’ve worked with in the corporate space. We already know how to work well with each other, in the way of communication styles and preferences, so the entire real estate process is that much smoother.
Another huge part of my network is the Terry College of Business at The University of Georgia, which is where I received my undergraduate degree in Marketing and also my MBA. I’ve had the opportunity to help many of my classmates both buy and sell property. It is fun to do business with friends, with whom I remember working together on group projects many years ago.
No matter how I know my clients, I want to ensure they know I will look out for their best interest. I hope once I’ve worked with a client, that they want to choose to work with me again and refer me to their family and friends.
