We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Parsons. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Small Business Babes was created out of a need I saw in the female small business owner space. In 2020 women were starting businesses from home more than ever and needed a way to connect and access to guidance on how to build a business. As an accountant I have seen first hand the impact of misinformation and how it can be detrimental to a business. Small Business Babes was created at the end of 2021 and officially in mid 2022 to have a space for women to learn, grow, and connect in a judgement free and supportive environment. We host events both in person and online because we understand that not everyone is able to leave their home and want those babes to be able to build connections as well. Personally, I battle chronic pain and have had to take care of family members and the flexibility of a small business became the only option for me. I know it’s this way for so many women everywhere too and small businesses can change lives.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I am Amanda Parsons and my mission is to empower female entrepreneurs from all walks of life. I personally have experienced how life changing entrepreneurship is and do my best to make it accessible to women everywhere. I grew up in south Florida with two loving parents. My mom worked for herself from home and was able to raise me and my sisters. And my dad worked for a small business that allowed him to take the time off and flexibility that he needed to be there for me and my sister once my parents divorced. Small business change lives. It’s a fact. My goals for the future are to continue to positively impact as many female entrepreneurs as possible locally and globally.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
The best way to build an audience on social media is to be authentic and honest in the way you show up PLUS consistency. When you are building a presence online it’s about being consistent in what you are saying and using it more as a conversation than as a YOU VS. THEM. There’s no tricking people into following you and in my experience the algorithm honestly plays a small part. Your audience likes what they like and they will find you. for us, video has been QUEEN, but for others, carousel posts work better. Ask yourself before you post, would I like this and stop for it on my feed? Make it something you love. Show up every day. And take an interest in helping your community.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Purple Cow is a must read! It’s all about marketing and how to serve your clients and grow a business. It’s a short read and very digestible.
