We recently connected with Amanda Paez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Hi there! Well, Teach Inspire Transform wasn’t the first name I had when starting my tutoring company. It was originally Aspire to Inspire. I’m not quite sure why the switch, but I said it to myself, it fully resonated. Teach, because that’s what we do. Inspire ignites an ability to feel, be creative, and foster self-confidence from within. Transform indicates change. Those are all the ultimate goals that fit perfectly to the message we are conveying when hiring a tutor with us!
Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Did you know about 90% of a child’s brain developments by the age of 5! This means, a child’s brain uses twice as much glucose (the energy that fuels the brain) as that of a full-grown adult. I personally wish I had a tutor growing up with struggles I had throughout the years. I knew I always wanted to be an educator. Playing teacher to becoming a certified babysitter by the age of 11, teaching felt natural and effortless. Fast forward some years to becoming a certified VPK instructor and realized, I have a superpower in guiding children to want to learn. Using visuals, kinesthetic and cognitive development, that’s my jam! My class then had a 2-year waiting list and I was being sought out to help children get into private schools and gifted programs. I then began Teach Inspire Transform roughly 5 years ago to assist as many children as I could! Most if not all my scholars continued to tutor with me for years, some till today! I not only saw great improvement academically, but they had also gained significant confidence! I have found a way to continue teaching and make an impact, which I am forever grateful for. Helping parents take away the burden of educating their own children (which can be difficult) and into the arms of a trusted tutor! Tutoring is an amazing mechanism to help fill in educational gaps and create a solid foundation and or for children needing a challenge to meet their full potential! I like to use the example of the three little pigs. When the houses were not built with a firm base they fell after time. Learning to read becomes more complex as we get older. First learning how to identify and sound out letters, then blending sounds and learning the vowels, reading complete complex sentences fluently, comprehension, and so on. When having the right tools from the start, building upon a sturdy foundation is reliant. This gives children more self-confidence and independence throughout school to reach goals and in LIFE! Watching my scholars learn and grow knowing I had a part in their development is everything. They are my why!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth I believe is the most effective way to grow your clientele. Teach Inspire Transform has expanded to where we are today thanks to the communication of clients. Having families not only trust you with their little ones but recommend your services to their friends and family is the BIGGEST compliment to receive. Having a website and or a social media account is a wonderful outlet to help give information and visualization to your services. You can’t forget about testimonials. Think about when you’re looking to purchase something let’s say on Amazon. I know I personally look to see those 5 stars on the top right. Looking not only for how many reviews the product has but also whether they are good reviews. Stay consistent and patience is key!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Let’s go back 2 years to 2020 mid-January. I had decided I was finically going to take a huge leap and not teach in the classroom the following year. Go all in, full speed ahead with Teach Inspire Transform in schools, coach and hire trustworthy educators to tutor more scholars, and expand. Plot twist, the entire world took a pause and Covid turned our world upside down. We learned we can get work done from home thanks to the power of technology and zoom. This changed the educational world along with many other professions. I had to take a step back, learn how to teach virtually with new technics and start, like yesterday. Overwhelming was an understatement. There were days I thought maybe this isn’t for me, I can’t do it, and I thought if I don’t believe in myself why would anyone else. Took many deep breaths and turned my cants into I can, I will, and I won’t give up on myself. Finding programs and resources that can benefit distance learning and myself to successfully help my scholars reach their goals and further academics. Having many up and down moments but pushed myself past my limited beliefs. Got out of my comfort zone which lead me to having the most clients I had ever had, found my way with online teaching, and became successful at it. What a time to be alive!
