We recently connected with Amanda Olson and Kristy Hollis and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda and Kristy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
This podcast in and of itself was a huge risk for us. We had zero knowledge of speaking, podcasting, platforms, what equipment we needed, we knew nothing. When we recorded our first season, there were several episodes that we recorded two or three times to try to get it right, and then prayed that someone, anyone would listen. We started with four faithful listeners that consisted of both of our moms and our husbands. We continued to step out of our comfort zones and trust that, even though we felt unworthy and unqualified, God truly had called us to do this and that He had a plan for it. Three years later we are still learning and growing in our abilities and talents. We now stream live video on YouTube and Facebook as we record for our audio platforms , and we have listeners from outside of our circle of friends, now reaching over 10,000 downloads. It makes the risk worth it when listeners whom we’ve never met, write and tell us how God spoke to them through an episode. It has been an amazing journey and we will continue to take the risks as long as someone out there feels “helped”.

Amanda Olson, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
We are Amanda Olson and Kristy Hollis, the Send Help Podcast. We are two moms living in the trenches. Between our crazy kids, amazing husbands, our jobs and our lives; we are surviving on coffee and the grace of God. We want to be a lifeline for other women, bringing encouragement through Jesus, laughter, and sisterhood. There is power in the word of God, shared in our testimonies. So we also want to provide a platform for other women to share their stories and how BIG our God is. So refill your coffee and join us on our journey.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building an audience on social media has proved to be one of the most difficult aspects for working moms with littles. Our audience participation spikes when we are able to do more live broadcasts and collaborations with other ministries. Finding the time to make these live posts is the hardest for us. The more lives that we are able to do, the more traffic we receive. Our audience loves to jump in and be a part of the conversation, and it doesn’t matter what the conversation is. Pictures get viewed, occasionally posts receive comments, but lives always bring in traffic and lead to interaction on other posts.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of our podcast is being a part of other mom’s lives and journeys. Motherhood can be a very lonely place, especially with a pandemic, and knowing that we can bring some laughter, and a ray of hope into someone else’s storm is amazing. Social media is a pit of comparison that we all get stuck in. We want to be the place where moms can go and not worry about whether it’s poop or chocolate on your shirt; or that it’s not clean in the first place. We’re with you, and so is Jesus.
