Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda Nail. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amanda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us about an important lesson you learned in school and why that lesson is important to you?
I just graduated with my masters in Writing from Johns Hopkins University last spring and the greatest lesson I learned there was the reward that comes from following your curiosity. Whether writing fiction or nonfiction, trusting my curiosity to guide me to the next great story, subject or person has consistently made my work stand out and opened doors to meeting some truly exceptional and interesting people. By following my curiosity, no assignment is ever boring, and every thing I write—whether copy, articles, or stories— radiates a genuine passion that readers want to engage with.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Im a full-time educator, teaching English to high school juniors, seniors and college student while also balancing being a wife, mother of three, and freelance writer, editor and digital media specialist. I’m passionate about using my gift for language to help other tell their stories, whether that be the story of their product, business, life, or imagination. Because I specialize in both fiction and nonfiction writing, I am able to help clients in a wide variety of writing projects: articles, promotions, scripts for commercials or entertainment, voice over work, copywriting, college application essays, grants, manuscript evaluation, and more. I also design and lead writing workshops in variety of topics for various levels of interests and writing needs.

We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with clients mostly through email. When I begin a project with someone new I like to send regular updates on how things are progressing and create a climate where questions and open communication are discussed welcome. These updates and understanding foster loyalty because the foundational need of any new client is to be understood.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
When I first started writing business a year ago, I thought finding clients would be really challenging because I assumed they had to be reached through the managing of multiple social media accounts. However, all of my clients and projects to date have come from connecting with people within my immediate community and building loyalty and further interest through word of mouth and direct messaging, pitching, and self promotion.
