Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda McKnight. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?

I remember the moment I fell in love with voice acting for the first time. I’m very much a Disney lover and my favorite Disney movie is “The Jungle Book”. When I was little, I remember watching a behind the scenes featurette on my Jungle Book VHS tape that played after the movie. There was a section that showed clips of the voice actors from the movie recording their parts, and right then and there I knew that’s what I wanted to do one day. I was absolutely enraptured with voice acting and have followed the voice acting world closely my entire life. I come from a family of singers and have always loved to sing, so using my voice in some creative capacity has always been something I’ve been passionate about. I’ve been madly in love with voice acting and singing my entire life, and I am so grateful I now have the incredible opportunity to use my voice professionally.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I started my voice acting career by just diving in head-first! I started auditioning for unpaid roles regularly on websites that hosted auditions for projects like animation, indie video games, podcasts, and everything in between! I sent in countless auditions day and after and eventually I started to get parts! I pushed myself out of my comfort zone by working on different character voices, accents, and not being afraid to embarrass myself or try something new. I looked to my voice acting idols for inspiration, and worked on improving my acting skills with each audition. As time passed, I eventually had the good fortune of meeting a handful of absolutely incredible authors who hired me to record audiobooks for them. My audiobook work is something I’m extremely proud of and I have grown so much as an actress and performer through those projects. I have always been a “what’s next?” sort of person, striving to always grow and improve while not forgetting to have a blast while I’m doing this work that I love so much.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

One of my greatest passions and lifelong hobbies has been gaming. I’ve loved video games all my life and have made some of my dearest friends and best memories through gaming. One of my absolute dream goals is to provide a voice in a AAA title video game, particularly a Bioware game! The Mass Effect and Dragon Age game series changed my life and I owe so much of who I am as a voice actress today to the performances in the video games I grew up playing. Getting to just be an extra in a game like that would be an honor, and my ultimate goal is to get to a protagonist or companion character in a game like that! Video games have shaped me personally and professionally, and I sincerely hope I can find a place for myself in the incredibly talented world of video game voice actors.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

There is nothing quite as rewarding for me as a voice actress than when a client of mine tells me that they truly felt I represented their character with my performance. I know how much an author or developer’s characters mean to them, and how much trust they’re placing in me when they ask me to provide that character’s voice. I’m taking their character from their hands and trying to stay true to that character while putting my creative interpretation on it. It’s a delicate balance, and one I take very seriously. To hear that a creator is happy with the way I performed their character means absolutely everything to me.
