We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Mbata-Graham. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
As my business started to expand, I realized I did not have the proper systems in place for expansion. I came across a private practice ceo/business coach and I had the initial consultation with her. Everything went great, but the cost was very steep and I was afraid to take that step. I waited until the very last minute until I decided that I was willing to take a risk and bet on myself and the help of someone else so that my business could prosper and have the systems in place to sustain prosperity. Everything has been working out just fine with her and I am gaining the knowledge, skills, and resources I need.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the founder of Beyond Brokenness, owner of Living Waters Counseling and Wellness Center, and visionary behind The Beyond Brokenness Retreat. I am a follower of Christ, a wife, and daughter. I earned my Bachelors and Masters of Social work from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
I help those who are broken, fearful, in bondage, void of love, and confused transition into a place full of the lavish love of God, wholeness, confidence, freedom, and courage. I help those who desire to access life beyond the brokenness of their past experience a life of purpose. I do this through individual coaching, group coaching, counseling, creating meaningful workshops and events, educating, writing, and using her voice.
I founded Beyond Brokenness after navigating several dark seasons and finding healing with the help of the Holy Spirit and the three principles in which Beyond Brokenness is rooted in: Dismantling Lies, Uncovering Truth, and Launching into Freedom.
Although I am formally trained, my passion was birthed from a place of brokenness, desperation, intentional healing, and eventual triumph. My story is unique to me, but similar to just about everyone I’ve encountered. I desire to walk with others through their most intimate, vulnerable, and transformative moments because I know firsthand the power awaiting one who chooses to heal.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Authenticity helped me build my reputation within the space I am currently in. Showing up when no one is watching, doing my own self-work, and choosing to remain consistent in the midst of adversity has set me up for great success. I continue to train as a professional in various evidenced based modalities; however, nothing has topped my commitment to choosing to be who I am at all times.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
The most successful people in my line of work are those who are committed to positive outcomes and know the limitations they have as a provider. One thing that has made me successful in my work is having awareness about who I am called to help and the problems I am called to solve. Without these two key components many people burn out early in my field and choose to go another way. We can’t save the world, and I’m glad I figured that out early. Oh yea, hire help.
