Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
When Covid started in 2020, it was a challenge that either crippled you in the work place, or catapulted you into making your dreams a reality. For me, Covid made my dream come true. At the time I was doing brows for Anastasia Beverly Hills, and when Covid happened, all the stores shut down. One month after the shutdown, a bunch of my clients started to reach out to me, asking me if I’d be willing to work with them from home. So i started doing services from home, and over the next three months of the shutdown, I built a very steady clientele. When my store opened back up, it was a total drag going back into the corporate work place. I decided from then on that I would continue working from home while I was working full time in the store to raise my own money to be able to open up my own spot. No banks or government assistance were handing out small business loans at the time, so I had to do it the old fashion way by saving every single dollar I made from both jobs. I did this over the course of 7 months, and within that time, I had save over 10,000$. When I felt ready, in April 2021, I took the plunge, quit my job, found a location, and gave birth to my baby brand, BROW NATUREL
Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the beauty world straight out of high school. I was one of those lucky ones that found a passion very early on. I started as a freelancer for MAC and throughout the years, I slowly climbed up the ladder with the brand and ended up as a product specialist for MAC, which was a highly sought out position. In my time of working in different beauty departments, I met the executive for Anastasia Beverly Hills, and for two years she tried to recruit me to come and work for her. One day I finally said yes, so I went back to school to get an aesthetics license so that I can start doing brow design with them. For the next 7 years, I developed my passion, obsession, and love for all things brows- down to color theory, brow mapping, brow lamination, microblading, the works!
At Brow Naturel, I create an experience for the client- one where we don’t just talk about “cleaning” the shape, but rather how our brows make us feel. One thing that sets me a part from most is the detail that comes behind the service. We talk about what brows should do according to bone structure, how to style them for our specific lifestyle, how to rehab them from past, poorly done services, and what our plan is for them to be the best version of themselves, and how we make them work for us.
I take pride in my love for brows, and I take more pride in how I can make someone feel confident in how they look through great brow shaping. We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The social media world is just a big playground for learning, connecting, and sharing. When I first started the page for Brow Naturel, I made sure to post a lot of before and after pictures because that’s what intrigues new clients on how well you can provide and execute a service. Once I spent some time posting those, I reached out to individual business owners, content creators, and influencers, and invited them to come an experience what Brow Naturel was all about. I gave them complimentary services in exchange for exposure on their stories! I made sure to see them consistently, so when they came once a month for their complimentary brow designs, they’d post, and with those posts, came lots of new followers.
My advice would be, DONT BE AFRAID! Make those connections, invite any and all types of people, offer the services complimentary for those with a big social media presence, and have fun! When people see you enjoying what you’re doing, the energy flows and they’ll always come back for more!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
CONSISTENCY! My reputation grew very quickly for a number of reasons! My services have the same outcome every single time. Brow design is such a sensitive thing, and if you don’t follow the same equation every single time, your brows will stay unmanageable and that will keep you unhappy. Consistency is key in good brow shaping!
My reputation also grew because my clients experience ME the same way every single time they come. High energy, lots of laughs and smiles, authenticity and honesty, and just pure love for the time we get to spend together. Making sure you’re consistent with how you portray yourself to your clients is vital for healthy relationship building and clienteling.
