Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda LaMarco. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
All of my important career and life chapters always started with taking big risks. Going to art school in a new city and leaning into my fear of the unknown was my first big risk. To this day I am still afraid to take risks but the rewards of embracing leaving my comfort zone always rewards me in the long run. Leaving a comfortable job when you stop growing is a risk, going freelance from a very stable job, moving to new cities, pushing yourself beyond what you know is a risk.
As a new parent I have found that it’s harder to take risks because my little one depends on me now. But I need to concur that fear so I can show him that it’s ok to fail and to follow your gut.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello,
Thanks for being here! I am a motion graphic artist, illustrator and compositor. I started around 2008 right when there were no jobs! But I was determined to break into the motion industry. I busted my butt doing 4 unpaid internships before I had my first break compositing for a studio called Buck in NYC.
Since then I have worked in NYC, LA, Oakland and now Portland, OR. I am grateful for my diverse background including broadcast design, environmental graphics, traditional animation, compositing and adverting.
I work mostly in Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Cinema 4D and Premiere.
Every time I start a new project I am usually staring at the screen saying how am I gonna pull this off? But I just dive in and start playing in after effects. It takes many fails and things i toss away to get to the resolution.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I’m not the first person to say failure builds resilience but it’s true. I think it’s important to share that every failure leads to something meant for you. It took many years to realize that when rejected or turned down that it’s ok. Anything you struggle to fight against getting is probably not meant for you. Over time you build resilience and a knowing to go with the flow and something will always come through for you. You just have to be aligned with yourself and ask the universe.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m never satisfied in my creative endeavors. I can always be better, work with more people, work on that bigger project. When you boil it down all I want is connection and like minded people who wanna kick ass with me.
