We recently connected with Amanda Hofman and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
As a two-time Entrepreneur, I know firsthand how difficult it can be to create branded merchandise. The process is expensive and challenging, and businesses end up with too many items but not a lot of quality pieces.
My business partner and I started Go To Market with a different vision: we wanted to make branded merchandise easy, fun, meaningful, and sustainable. In our business, we create custom print on demand merchandise shops for brands and businesses with a focus on creating items that people want to keep in the long run. We wanted to bring a fresh take on branded merchandise that steers clear of junk swag (like keychains and pens) and adds intention and meaning to what gets printed. We want each piece of merchandise to build a tangible and lasting connection between a brand and their consumer. Whether it’s shirts for the staff to wear, an online shop for their clients, or even swag for an upcoming conference, we want to make sure those pieces are high quality and sustainable, size inclusive, and something people will cherish for years to come.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am super passionate about merch in general, and I am always buying pieces of merch I see at cafes, tourist spots, etc. I really enjoy helping brands identify what is special about their brand and applying it to unique branded merchandise.
Along with helping business grow through swag, we also have a deep focus on sustainability. The majority of bulk printing involves a lot of wasted product. We solve that problem by opening businesses up to the world of print-on-demand: you buy only what you need, and it’s shipped directly to you or the person ordering it.
Plus, a lot of time with bulk printing there’s a very limited selection of sizing and styles. With a print-on-demand store, you’re able to give people options, because not everyone wears the same size or likes the same types of apparel. One person might like a big, loud message on a t-shirt, while another might like a subtle design on a hoodie. It’s important to be inclusive of everyone and make sure everyone feels welcome in your company.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my business partner, Jessie, while working together on my first company, Urban Girl Squad. Jessie and I have completely opposite skill sets (which is why this works so perfectly!) but we share the same work life balance, and we knew we wanted to start something exciting that also aligned with our shared values.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Networking groups are a passion of mine – I love supporting women in all kinds of groups via Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
