We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Harsche a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The biggest risk I’ve taken was simply going to beauty school at the age of 28! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and changing a career later in the game can be terrifying! You can decide who or what you want to be at any point in your life though it’s never too late to start over.

Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a hairstylist and hair color educator originally from North Dakota. I’ve been doing hair for about 13 years and educating for 10 of those. This career has brought me all of the world which is something I never thought was even possible. The connections with people is probably my favorite part of the job. You literally hold someone’s self esteem in your hands and giving someone that confidence is amazing.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Building an audience on social media can be hard but so beneficial for a business. The best advice I can give is just be yourself. Posting your awesome work is great but people really want to also see the personality behind the projects. It makes your clients feel more comfortable and if they will be a good fit in your chair! What it all comes down to is how you make people feel.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
This one hits home. I originally wanted to become an educator because I was living in a small town at the time where educational events never came. When you are in these small towns it’s also harder to get to educational events with travel. I wanted to provide education to places less traveled making it more accessible to all hairstylists and that’s exactly what I did in the first few years! That lead to me getting picked up by a major brand and before I knew it I was traveling all over the world sharing my passion with other artists. I am very grateful to everyone that has supported me through all stages of my dreams and career and hope that I am capable of also supporting them in theirs.
