Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?

I graduated high school early and continued my education at Votech. I received my cosmetology license and went to RVCC. I graduated from there with my associate in Human Services Pre-social work.

I went to Rowan for 2 years and received my bachelor’s in Psychology. At that point, when I was about to graduate, I realized that I wanted to be my own boss. I’ve always babysat, housesat, took care of animals, and I thought, why not make this a business? I always enjoyed being around animals. I remember asking people before babysitting if they had any pets I could play with after the kids went to sleep.

I spoke to my bf at the time (now fiancé’) and he said to chase my dreams so I did, and not even a year into business I realized I needed help, it was only the two of us juggling Somerset and Hunterdon county. I started out in Whitehouse station and took any job I could possibly get. Working 12+ hours was exhausting. I realized I needed to hire help in order to scale my business and grow. We moved to Somerville and started offering services in Whitehouse and Flemington where I was originally from.

Now, we reside in Hillsborough and our team covers,

Whitehouse, Flemington, Branchburg, somervile, Bridgewater, Bedminster, Hillsborough, and more!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am the owner of happytailsbyamanda we do walks, check-ins, over nights, and more. We love all animals whether its a puppy or an older dog. We love cats, rabbits, reptiles and more! I’ve even taken care of cockatoos before! I am very communicative with all of my clients and I think they adore that most about me. We use great software that’s continuing to offer more and more so that’s a plus to stay organized, request walks, invoices, etc. I work with each person individually if they can’t find something on my website I work with them to figure out the most comfortable thing for their animal for when they have stepped out.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?

I think it’s so important to post things and engage with your followers and clients by taking a video with your face and audio in it. clients love it!! I wing my social media with the help of Jeff from @Mondlockmoments and his great photography skills! I love posting silly dog memes on there and staying active as much as possible.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I think being honest and upfront with clients and connecting during the initial meet and greet with the client and pet. If staff are attending, I always set up a Group chat beforehand and discuss with the client important things and introduce myself as well. I think communication is key, especially in business. A lot of emergencies clients have had, I have gotten calls and also helped. Those people remember that and are thankful for such a sweet team.
