Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda Dobson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I know I’m not supposed to have a ‘favorite’ client… but I will always smile when I remember Danielle. Her ponytail and spunky smile masked her feelings of being stuck and overwhelmed.
She initially came to me for help losing weight and improving her sleep, but we quickly realized that there was more going on under the surface. Danielle had been living with heartburn and digestive symptoms for so long, that she didn’t even think to mention them as health problems – frequent heartburn and daily constipation were normal for her. She took several medications for heartburn and acid reflux. She stopped for fast food almost every day even though it made her feel awful afterwards, and she wanted help curbing those cravings!
I could see that she was struggling, but I could also see that she really wanted to feel better. She was fully engaged in our weekly video calls and got excited by understanding what her body was doing and why. Because she was motivated and willing to make changes in her lifestyle and food choices, I saw her making great progress!
At first, she had severe heartburn, daily constipation, disrupted sleep, and a deep distrust of her ability to make different choices and see change. As I worked with her, we tackled one issue at a time and came up with reasonable solutions. I listened as she talked through her challenges, and we worked together to break things down to the root problems. Some solutions were practical – what foods to keep on hand, when is the best time to eat breakfast. Some solutions were more educational – learning foods that have more protein, and how stress affects digestion. Some were quick, and others took more time.
As we worked on her digestion, she also started to lose some weight. She slept through the night, and even checked with her doctor about reducing her acid blocker prescription medication.
And most importantly, I saw her confidence grow. As she learned more about how the body works and saw the real-life impacts of the changes we made, she started to take more responsibility for her health. Instead of “I can’t stop making bad choices”, she began saying “I discovered that I do care about my health! My digestion is a lot better, and I am excited to have tools to do something about it.”
In 3 months, Danielle went from struggling and surviving to encouraged and empowered.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, and I can help you use nutrition as a tool to turn your health around.
I especially love to help women find natural solutions to heartburn, acid reflux, and other digestive issues.
These stomach acid problems are more than just uncomfortable symptoms – they actually prevent you from digesting your food and absorbing the nutrients you need, which can lead to nutrient deficiencies, sleep and mood issues, autoimmune conditions, and more. Medications often mask the symptoms without addressing the underlying problems and may lead to even more serious health problems.
Do you struggle with symptoms like burning, bloating, or belching after eating? Or do you take medications for acid reflux or GERD? Perhaps you want to dig deeper and find the root causes of your symptoms. Maybe you want a more natural way to find relief.
There is hope! I can help you stop chasing symptoms and find relief through nutrition and holistic solutions. Using food and lifestyle, you can learn to take control of your own health and see firsthand the changes that are possible!
At Amanda Grace Nutrition, I provide education and support to help you learn these tools. I offer remote virtual consultation by video call, so you can join me from the comfort of your home or office – anywhere in the USA. And we can meet regularly for long-term support, working through challenges and making progress at the pace that works best for you.
You don’t have to put up with reflux or digestive problems, and you certainly don’t have to let your health decline even further. I can help you see the root causes and learn how to support your health using the food you eat everyday.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes, I would! I have worked in several different professional specialties, and they all contributed to the expertise I have today. My physics degree provided a solid foundation in scientific thinking and evaluating evidence. I also spent five years in clinical healthcare, seeing firsthand the vital importance of patient care and compassion. And my five years as a teacher gave me more experience in how to best communicate complex ideas in ways that are easy to understand.
What does that mean for you? I love to do the research that you don’t have time for, but I also make it relatable and practical for your daily life. I care about you and your individual needs, and I want to help you take responsibility for your own health!

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think the most helpful skill as a holistic health practitioner is listening – really listening. I will always allow time for you to tell me your story, and I’m genuinely interested in hearing your perspective and experiences. Along with that, solving puzzles and making connections are skills that allow me to see how symptoms are connected to nutrition and lifestyle. By taking the time to listen and working to put the pieces together, I can help you get to the root cause of health issues and find natural solutions.
