We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda DeWoody. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, one thing many business owners consider is donating a percentage of sales or profits to an organization or cause. We’d love to hear your thoughts and the story behind how and why you chose the cause or organization you donate to.
Female Entrepreneurship is something I’m really passionate about. It’s my belief that women make incredible business owners when their passion to do so is fostered. In my career, I love getting the opportunity to work closely with female entrepreneurs to help them position their brands for success within their industries. As a little girl, I was lucky enough to be raised by parents who ran a business. Then, after graduating from high school, I was lucky enough to work for them throughout my college years. And still today, I am lucky enough to learn from both their trials and triumphs. With their unique perspective as business owners and support for me and my crazy childhood “what ifs”, inventions, and business-owning dreams, I had the confidence to start my design studio after graduating from college. I think that fostering entrepreneurship in children (and especially young girls), if that’s something that interests them, is invaluable. That’s why, this year, I decided to donate 1% of my yearly revenue to Girls Crushing It, an organization that empowers girls (ages 8-18) through entrepreneurial experiences that increase confidence and build leadership skills. They offer education and entrepreneurial experiences, such as pop-up shops, that give young girls insight into what it means to be a business owner. It’s something that makes me proud to contribute to — even in a small way — as a female business owner, but also as a mother of a daughter who I hope grows up knowing that I’ll support any and all of the crazy things she may dream up.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Poised Avenue™ Design Studio was launched at the beginning of 2020. At the time, I had just moved back home with my parents and had graduated from college just a few months prior with a degree I didn’t have much interest in pursuing. All of my life, I’ve considered myself an artist. I have a passion for being creative and for design, but it wasn’t until 2020 that I was introduced to the branding industry. I immediately fell in love with the way it merged logical thinking and strategic marketing with the arts and graphic design. Just a few months later, I found myself working on branding projects as a contract designer for two separate studios and that’s where I got to learn even more about the branding world and the running of a design studio. Throughout my time with them, I was also working for my parents in print and digital marketing. I truly got the best of both worlds! When 2021 came around, my husband and I welcomed our first child in October, and shortly after, I decided to stay home with her while turning my focus on motherhood and the growth of my studio (in which I could work from home). Ever since then, I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with and grow alongside some amazing entrepreneurs, helping each of them with brand strategy and visual identity. It’s been a dream come true for me because none of it ever feels like work!

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I love this question! Fostering brand loyalty is so important to me and the success of my studio. One way I do this is by following up with clients after their project has been completed. I mark my calendar exactly six months out from each project end date, to remind myself to reach out and ask my client how their new assets have worked for them, and if there was anything else I could offer them. I also love to stay connected with my clients on social media. It’s a great way for me to stay top of mind, but also to showcase new offerings or services that may be relevant to them.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I’d say my mission, personally, is to craft a design studio that works into my life as a wife and mother. Having the ability to stay home with my daughter (and future kids) while also bringing in an income and doing what I love is invaluable to me and my family! It’s also a huge reason I love working with other women and moms because I’m empathetic to their business goals and aspirations. It’s a win-win!
