We recently connected with Amanda Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
“In my photography business, I focus on creating an authentic and personal experience. Unlike many photographers who may upcharge for additional photos, I provide all the photos from the session without hidden fees. I also take the time to connect with my clients, especially kids, by getting down on their level and building a relationship that allows me to capture genuine moments of connection. Additionally, I love surprising my clients with small thoughtful gestures, like bringing their favorite Starbucks drink to a newborn session or a treasure box to help reward those sweet toddler smiles. My goal is to ensure every session feels personal and comfortable, with a focus on capturing true, heartfelt moments.”

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
“I started Amanda Davis Photography 8 years ago, after leaving my career as a teacher. I wanted to stay home with my babies while still being able to connect with kiddos in a creative way, so I chose photography. It gave me the perfect opportunity to merge my love for families and storytelling. I absolutely love getting to know each family and capturing their unique story, especially the beauty and authenticity of motherhood.
I offer a variety of services, including full and mini sessions throughout the year. I specialize in everything from Fresh 48 hospital sessions to senior portraits, making sure I’m there to document all the important life seasons. I often use Lemon Drop Studios for newborn and family sessions to give that perfect bright and airy look to your photos. I also love shooting at sunrise or sunset to give that perfect lighting for outside portraits. Seeing my clients print their photos and hang them on the wall is the ultimate reward for me!

Have you ever had to pivot?
When I first started my photography business, I tried my hand at wedding photography, thinking it would be a great opportunity. But after a few weddings, I quickly realized that it was far too stressful for me! Coordinating all the moving parts of a wedding day just wasn’t the right fit for my personality or style. So, I decided to pivot and focus on what I love most—capturing families and the genuine connections between them. This change allowed me to feel more fulfilled and to build stronger relationships with my clients. It was a tough decision at the time, but it’s led to my true passion and purpose in photography which is capturing families.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
“I built my reputation in the photography market by staying true to my values of personal connection, transparency, and delivering quality experiences. I focused on creating meaningful relationships with my clients, especially by getting on the kiddos’ level to make them feel comfortable and happy during sessions. Word of mouth grew as families appreciated my approach to capturing authentic moments and my commitment to providing all photos without upcharging.
Consistency, trust, and being genuinely invested in my clients’ stories have all been key to building my reputation.”
