We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Couture. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
When I was 10 years old, I was gifted the Dixie Chicks “Home” album. I played it on repeat for months and decided right then and there I wanted to learn how to sing. I started taking singing lessons that year and continue to take lessons to this day. Initially, my lessons were grounded in classical music.
What I know now is that those lessons taught me the fundamentals of being a strong vocalist and resilient performer. I am able to sing dynamically, safely, and really tell a story – and I believe it’s from being trained from such a young age. My voice took a long time to mature – I listen back to songs I sang when I was in my teens and I sound very young and there isn’t much power there. With that being said – I was taught to never push my voice as that can cause irreversible damage. Now, my voice is more powerful and mature, and I don’t have to strain to hit the high notes.

Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’ve always wanted to be a performer. For as long as I can remember I’ve wanted to be on stage, with a microphone in my hand, with the lights on me. After falling in love with country music (specifically Natalie Maines), a dream blossomed in my mind of becoming a country singer.
Over the years I have been involved in numerous stage productions (I also love musical theatre), done a few competitions, written countless songs & performed many gigs. It was in 2022 that I started to look more seriously into the writing and recording side of things – writing with professional songwriters and getting familiar with the studio. At this point in my life I was also married and relatively settled in my personal life – so it felt like a perfect time to focus on myself. Since that time I have met and worked some extremely talented writers, and am working with producers who really believe in me and go to bat for me. I have a deep rooted faith in God. I’m a family girl – I’m married to a fantastic man who is an amazing dad to our little girl.
My story is not one of overnight success – it’s one of working and dreaming quietly, behind the scenes. I learned that doubt kills way more dreams than failure ever will. Once I started focusing on myself and putting myself out there, I found a lot of doors opening for me. I am really proud of the songs I’ve written and released this year – they have been pretty successful on streaming services and on SiriusXM.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is just to not quit. Every time I get frustrated by a “no”, or a loss, or anything resembling a failure, there’s a voice in my head that just says keep going. That takes courage – so my mission is to not lose that courage & always remember that little girl with a really big dream.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
“The Artists Way” by Julia Cameron is one of the main reasons I started to take my music career more seriously. It’s all about nurturing your inner child and artist and remembering why you love what you do in the first place. Being a creative is extremely vulnerable as people are always judging your work, your face, your outfit, everything. That’s why it’s so important to remember your “why” – that I really just love to sing & I know God gave me the gift of music to share with others.
