We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Calderon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At the heart of Tava Towers and Home Constructors lies a commitment to ethical, transparent, and community-focused construction practices. Home Constructors was born out of a vision to reshape the construction industry, sparked by witnessing the prevalence of unethical practices among contractors on Colorado’s Front Range.
We believe in integrity, excellence, and sustainability, which is why Tava Towers reflects these values with its innovative design, solar-powered infrastructure, and inclusive spaces for living and leisure. Our mission is to elevate industry standards, foster trust, and create enduring, positive impacts for communities.
Our journey at Home Constructors deepened in 2024 when we identified another widespread unethical practice: greenwashing. This deceptive approach promotes sustainability as a mere marketing tactic, with no real action behind it. Greenwashing is just another form of dishonesty that undermines trust while profiting from false promises.
Witnessing this trend strengthened our resolve and inspired the mission behind Tava Towers. We committed ourselves to do what others only claim—building with genuine sustainability and the planet in mind. Tava Towers is a testament to that promise, powered by solar energy and designed with thoughtful, eco-friendly innovation. For us, sustainability isn’t a slogan; it’s a responsibility we take seriously.

Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those unfamiliar with my journey, my name is Amanda Calderon, and I am the President of Home Constructors, a company dedicated to ethical, sustainable building practices. My path to construction was far from traditional. Before entering the industry, I was a nurse with a BSN from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. A drawn out battle with lung cancer nearly ended my life, which put me in an induced coma after respiratory failure. After overcoming this life-altering experience, I met the man of my dreams and I decided to pursue a career rooted in creativity and problem-solving—one that I had unknowingly prepared for since childhood by helping my father with construction work.
Together with my husband, John Calderon—a seasoned construction professional—I dove into the world of building, learning every phase of construction and mastering design software. We launched Home Constructors, which specializes in custom building projects, and designed sustainability to be at its core.
I’m most proud of our latest work in progress, Tava Towers; a project that embodies everything we stand for: innovation, sustainability, and integrity. For me, success is about leaving a lasting impact on communities and proving that ethical practices can create not only better buildings but also a better world.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Resilience is deeply personal for me because I’ve lived it in ways I never imagined. For years, my health deteriorated, and I was dismissed by doctors even as I suffered from alarming symptoms of what turned out to be lung cancer. By the time I underwent a partial lobectomy to remove the tumor, the damage had been immense—chronically low oxygen, prolonged bedridden states, and monthly hospitalizations for pneumonia and infections left me overwhelmingly weak.
After surviving these harrowing years, I faced a grueling recovery. On oxygen, with scarred and stiffened lungs, battling exhaustion, I had to relearn basic functions like coordination, memory, and linguistic clarity after losing my voice for months following a coma. Every single day tested the limits of my existence, requiring a strength I didn’t know I had, and sometimes, didn’t want to have.
But day by day, I pushed forward, focused on recovery, and asked myself what I could do with the life I was fighting so hard to reclaim. That journey taught me what true resilience is: finding hope and purpose, even when every moment felt insurmountable.
This experience is what shapes my work today—it is about turning the page in life and using my time left to create something beyond myself; building not just structures but places where the very lives others can be centered on existing in a way that does no harm to the surrounding environment. Facilitating a heightened consciousness and thoughtfulness in others, where they consider their collective impact on the planet, would bring me great satisfaction.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met John, now my husband and business partner, in 2018, just months after finishing my cancer treatment. At the time, I was seeking work with his nonprofit organization, which focuses on empowering underprivileged foster youth by teaching them skills to succeed in life.
We quickly discovered we shared a passion for helping others and that honesty, character, and resilience were values we both deeply cherished. John showed great compassion for my condition while I worked to regain stable health and displayed a genuine drive to help others in a way I had not seen in a man before. Our connection was immediate—we became best friends, started working together, and have been inseparable ever since.
