We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amanda Cafcules a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
I remember walking in to my first interview with a salon owner. I wanted this job so bad. I remember working hard on making a resume I had no experience for. I sat down with him, he glanced at my resume and torn it up. I was stunned! He told me the first part of success was showing up. I showed up everyday, even when it was hard. Still to this day I never forgot that. Not only did it show up for him and the team, I showed up for myself. To scale up in anything you do, you have to be hungry, passionate, and willing to teach others. When pride is passion with a purpose, failure becomes distant. Sometimes we forget why we do something, because it might become hard or we dim our fire we once had. When you know your worth, stopping isn’t an option. Love takes over everything you do. Everyone around you notices it. It’s that “boss babe” mentality.
Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am 36 years old and iv been in the beauty industry for 15 years. I specialize in cutting, color, and extensions. My journey started at the Paul Mitchell school in Jacksonville FL. The way I talk, to how I apply color stemmed from my journey in beauty school. Without my fundamentals, I wouldn’t be the same stylist today. Having mentors in anything you embark on is a must. Some of my mentors like John Paul DeJoria, Grant Cardone put really helpful and inspiring information out there and I highly recommend. 2 years ago in the height of the pandemic I knew something needed to happen. I was feeling depressed and not driven, I needed to level up! How I did this was a business plan, I wrote everything down on paper. When your thoughts become words, your words become actions. I work hard for everything I have and not once have I felt like what I do is a job. My clients are spoiled and have become my family and friends and they know how amazing they feel leaving the salon. Its only logic for me to do your hair. Hair Logic Beauty Bar.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
First thing about social media is EVERYTHING IS CONTENT! I do highly recommend to keep business and personal separate. Or the 80/20 rule 80% about your business and 20% about you. You will come to realize this rule works for anything in business. Get a good camera to take quality photos or an updated phone. biggest advice when editing. Edit photos with a purpose, too much editing takes away from quality but I also know we like to be creative. Lastly reels are where its at, so video is also important because instagram and tiktok make it easy to upload and sync to music. just be consistant and try and post twice a day.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
Online booking has changed my business because its allowed me to have more free time to work on my business and have some kind of social life. I love booksy! it has a great way to keep my clients informed of what is coming up and what to look forward to, as well as every visit accruing loyalty points. 10/10 I highly recommend!
