Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Amanda & Brian Holbert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Amanda & Brian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name of our brand is Steel City Taste Budz. The story behind it starts back in January of 2020…talk about bad timing!!!
It was Brian’s idea to start a separate Instagram page to post all the food we make and places we go out to eat, since I was already doing that. When trying to decide on a name, we didn’t see many pages with couples who posted food content.
We love to say that food is our love language. Food brings people together, you show love through food, and you share culture through food. Our page is dedicated to our love for food in and around the Pittsburgh area. We are extremely lucky that Pittsburgh has such a diverse and interesting food scene. Pittsburgh is the known as the Steel City and taste budz is just a little play on words!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We are a content creating married couple from Pittsburgh who showcase our love of food in our area on social media. While this is not our full time job, we would love for it to be, and that is the ultimate goal for us! Brian is a CNC machine operator and I work for a large health care corporation.
You will only see places on our page that we absolutely love. We don’t believe in posting about a negative experience. We are only trying to highlight the best of Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas because there is enough negativity on social media already.
We have also worked with and collaborated with many different brands and restaurants to highlight their pages and businesses. Our collaborations range from local speciality grocery stores, family owned restaurants and breweries, to larger companies such as Kennywood amusement park and Live Casino.
I believe our page is different from others in our niche because we are truly only highlighting the best of Pittsburgh. We are not doing this for likes and follows, of course, that is a nice perk of the gig! We are our authentic selves, for better or for worse; and I think that is something to be proud of.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For us, the most rewarding part of all of this is getting to share with the world what makes us happy and seeing other people not only in the Pittsburgh area but around the world resonating with that or discovering a new place.
It is amazing when we can highlight a small family owned business and hopefully reach new audiences for them and help them gain clientele and business. Social media is such a huge part of our everyday lives now and getting your business/restaurant out there on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc is crucial in our opinion.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
In terms of content creation, a simple like, comment, or share can change someone’s life! If we love a business or restaurant, we follow them, we like, comment, and share their content, and let them know how much we love their food/product. We have built friendships with business owners in our community because we not only frequent their establishments, but regularly talk about them in our social media.
