We recently connected with Amanda Brandon and have shared our conversation below.
Amanda, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Color Glo was founded by my grandfather, Everett C. Smith in 1975 Color Glo began franchising in 1982. Everett was a veteran of the United States Airforce with a vision and determination to make that dream a reality. He was certain it was possible to create a global brand that would not only bring life back to your valuable possessions, but to also do so while creating products and processes that not only protect our environment but are also safe to use in your home, around your family and pets.
Together with his two sons, Gary Smith and Scott Smith, Color Glo opened their own research and development labs to formulate the best products in this industry. They hired chemists that had strong backgrounds in new product formulation and research. Over a period of several years, their team developed the original Color Glo proprietary line of restoration and repair products. Today the original 8 products in the line have grown to over 100 different and completely unique products. Each of the over 100 products are developed and selected to work seamlessly within the Color Glo system and has become a growing global brand in over 52 countries worldwide.
I joined the family business in 1998 as their administrative support, slowly moving my way up over the years, engaging with our franchise family & helping them not only grow their own business but also our brand. I am proud to say now, 26 years later, we continue to work together growing what was a vision made into a reality but my grandfather, Everett. His dream made into a reality and ultimately leaving long lasting, positive impacts and new memories throughout our entire culture and community here at Color Glo!
Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Joining our family business was a no-brainer for me. Not only did I grow up around the business and its franchisees, but there was always a feeling of belonging when I would spend time with my father, Gary Smith or uncle, Scott Smith at the office. Candy jars lined the lobby to greet all and my grandfather at the helm leading us all along the way. It was way more than just a biological connection, it was genuine creatives pouring their hearts and talents into a brand they genuinely believed in – and it showed, boy did it show!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When the Covid pandemic hit, we immediately started to think outside the box in regard to what we could do to help our communities through this. It was clear to us that expanding into sanitizing was not only needed, but something our team and brand could do so with great success that would truly benefit everyone involved. With that we expanded our product line adding disinfecting products and equipment to our franchisees. This not only allowed them to grow their customer base, but to provide safe and effective sanitizing services to schools, churches, government buildings and so much more, helping protect families and our environment.
How did you build your audience on social media?
As we all know, social media is ever evolving and also essential to your business in many ways! Individuals, idealists, entrepreneur’s, educational groups, stay-at-home moms, you name it, and they are probably watching. Which it is KEY to make sure your content is not only appealing, but I also think it is also critical to insure it is genuine. This is what makes our sharing on social media so much fun and often done with ease. We are able to create our audience simply from our franchisee’s incredible talent! The before and after’s we receive and see are truly incredible, it is like a work of art our Color Glo franchisees create when they are done restoring their customers valuable possessions, not only saving our customers the cost of full replacement which often is outrageous and not within their budget but it also takes our environment into consideration, keeping those items out of our landfills and in homes, offices, restaurants, dealerships and more, like new again, one piece at a time.
