We were lucky to catch up with Amanda Boshard recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally was largely influenced by my dad, who was a working artist. Growing up, I was always around art, and I was naturally creative as a kid. Initially, I thought I wanted to follow in his footsteps as an oil painter, but living in the shadow of a successful artist made it tough. I had a clear idea of what a “good” painting should look like, and when I couldn’t get there as fast as I wanted, it became frustrating.
There was also a defining moment when I watched the movie What Women Want. It gave me my first glimpse into what being a creative director would be like, and it just seemed like so much fun. That movie was an eye-opener.
As I started taking art and design classes in college, the assignments felt like fun. I found myself excited for the new challenges each project brought, and that’s when I knew I was on the right path. I began to drift away from fine art and moved towards graphic design, which felt like a perfect fit.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up immersed in the world of art, with my dad being a working artist. That early exposure to creativity made a lasting impact, and it naturally led me to explore my own path in the creative field. Initially, I wanted to be an oil painter, but I realized that graphic design and creative direction felt more like the right fit as I went through college. The assignments in my design courses felt like fun challenges, and the process of solving creative problems kept me excited and engaged.
Today, I work in the creative industry as part of a design agency, Sans Serif. Our agency focuses on transforming complex ideas into simple, impactful visuals and strategies. We work with clients across industries to help them refine their brand presence, modernize their visual identity, and create content that resonates with their audience. Some of the key services we offer include branding, campaign strategy, UI/UX design, and high-quality visual content production.
What sets us apart is our ability to take complex, often overwhelming ideas and distill them into visually compelling and engaging experiences. Our clients come to us because they need a fresh, innovative approach to their branding or marketing efforts, and we’re known for delivering creative solutions that truly stand out. We’ve worked on diverse projects, from cybersecurity campaigns to website rebrands, always with a focus on simplicity, creativity, and meaningful results.
One of the things I’m most proud of is helping brands not only visually express themselves but also reach concrete outcomes, like increased student engagement and donor support for organizations like Mission Bit. It’s rewarding to see how our design work can make a tangible difference.
For anyone considering working with us, the main thing to know is that we take a collaborative, hands-on approach. Whether it’s enhancing the user interface of software, launching a new brand campaign, or re-imagining a website, we dive deep into the heart of the project to deliver something that aligns with your goals and resonates with your audience. At the end of the day, we’re here to make creativity work for you.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is helping our clients achieve their goals. There’s a deep sense of satisfaction that comes from seeing how our work can make a tangible difference in their business, whether it’s building a brand identity or guiding a company through a digital transformation.
Another part that I truly enjoy is the constant learning. Every new client introduces me to a different industry, product, or challenge, and that keeps things exciting. On top of that, I’m always diving into new technologies and expanding my design skills, which is something I value. Creativity is never stagnant—there’s always something new to explore, and that’s what keeps me passionate about the work I do
Have you ever had to pivot?
Motherhood has definitely shifted how I approach my work, not just in terms of balancing my time but also in becoming more strategic with how I manage projects and energy. I had to learn how to work smarter, prioritizing what really matters and streamlining the process. Interestingly, that more balanced approach has actually helped me become more successful, allowing me to focus on both my personal life and professional goals without feeling overwhelmed.
It’s also given me a new sense of purpose. Now, it’s not just about creating impactful work for clients but also about setting an example for my kids. It’s helped me become more empathetic and connected in my work, both with clients and colleagues, which has ultimately made the creative process more fulfilling.
