We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Borowski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
For me, passion is the number one requirement for success. I started Pitch-a-Friend in Denver less than 3 months ago, and I already consider it to be successful by most standards. I have amazing partnerships with incredible vendors, a growing social media presence, collaborations with extremely unique companies and so much on the calendar to look forward to. On top of that, I get to manage and organize events that help people find potential partners and get out of their shell. Pitch-a-Friend is an event which showcases not only eligible singles and what they offer to the crowd but sets the bar for friends supporting the ones they love.
I have plenty of credit to give for the success of Pitch-a-Friend Denver, and first and foremost are the original creators who started in Philidelphia. They had a wonderful idea they turned into reality, watched it grow in their city, and expanded not only across the country but internationally. They put together the resources to manage events easily and created a community of support and excitement for the idea.
I can also credit the singles and wing-men/wing-women of Denver for so openly accepting the idea of pitching their friends and showing up with continued excitement week after week. Venues are excited to be a part of the experience and watch the room fill with laughter and love with every event.
I think I can speak for each city organizer that the key to the success is having a passion for what we are accomplishing. This isn’t anyone’s main job, and we all spend a lot of time on marketing, scheduling and organizing the events, purely because we love the outcome. We keep the events free to attend, because we want everyone to feel encouraged to be a part of it. I measure my success so far by the relationships I’m building, the fun I’m having with it, and the happiness I see and hear from those who attend the showcases. As long as that passion is the driving force, the success will show up in so many different forms, and reach more and more people.
Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m the city organizer for Pitch-a-Friend Denver. Pitch-a-Friend is an event held at local breweries, restaurants and social spaces where 8-12 eligible singles are “pitched” PowerPoint presentation style with a mingling session afterwards. The concept and company were created in Philidelphia and has grown around the country and internationally. I fell in love with the idea the second I heard of it and interviewed to start Denver’s chapter in November 2024.
The events are growing each week with excitement from various venues, partners and participants. I believe what sets Pitch-a-Friend apart from other dating events is the fact that your friend is vouching for you. When a close friend shares all the things they love about you, the crowd can feel the authenticity in each and every pitch. It’s endearing, lighthearted and most of the time extremely funny and entertaining.
The events are free, and there is no requirement to participate, so for anyone nervous about putting themselves out there, it’s easy to come and watch without any pressure. Overall, it’s an entertaining evening at a great restaurant or bar, with plenty of potential to make a connection!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Growing clientele over the last few months has been the result of venue partnership engagement and the creation of collaborations with different companies with similar clientele. Specifically, Instagram stories with multiple collaborators have helped expand my reach. Creating events that pull in not only singles who want to get pitched but also have other interests like VOLO Sports or Plantiness in Denver, really make my events so much more. Partnering with local pet rescues for “pitch-a-pet” is also a way to reach more clientele and create events that bring more people together.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Pitch-a-Friend is still extremely young in Denver, so my goal is to build a reputation of genuine care for participants, and a love for what Pitch-a-Friend is accomplishing. To do that, it’s important to respond quickly to everyone who reaches out and engage authentically with everyone who attends or hosts an event. I also want the events to be successful for the singles, so I take every suggestion and request to heart, and I’m always open to feedback around what would help people make connections. I hold demographic-specific events when there is enough interest and will continue to try new things to get the best outcomes for those who show up.
