We recently connected with Amanda Ayala and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda , thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Being an artist comes with a lot of highs and lows. There are times when the momentum is rolling and a lot of great opportunities arise, while other times it can be slow, daunting and stressful. I absolutely love what I do, and love that I get to make music, but I think it is natural to think what it would be like to have a regular job. When those thoughts come, it’s usually during a slower period in life, but I’m thankful I have a supportive team to motivate me and snap me out of that mindset. The other side of it, is that music is all I’ve ever known since I was a little girl. All I ever wanted to do was be on stage and be a singer, and from a young age I’ve done just that. So to me, being an artist is also pretty regular and natural for me too!
Amanda , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Amanda Ayala and I am a singer/songwriter based in New York. I got my first big start on NBC’s The Voice, and since then have pursued a solo career in the industry. I have gone on to work and perform with some incredible names in the music business including John Fogerty, Leslie West of Mountain, Eddie Money, Taylor Dayne and more! I am actively performing and touring with my band, and have performed at numerous well known venues and cities. I am excited to see what the year will bring and look forward to releasing more music for my fans and supporters for 2024!
If you’d like to know even more about me or follow me on my journey, I would love to connect on social media!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There is a lot of rewarding feelings that come with being an artist. The most gratifying feeling for me is hearing personal stories from my supporters on how my songs have connected with them and touched them in personal ways. While I write lyrics from very personal experiences and feelings, it is always an incredible feeling when I hear people say “I feel like you wrote this about my life.” We all may have different walks of life, but one thing that seems to be a universal connection is music. I say this every time I am releasing a song, during the writing and recording process the song is my story and my experience. The second the song is released it is no longer mine, but my listeners song and it becomes their own stories. That mindset is exactly why I am a songwriter.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I think something non-creative don’t understand at times is actually how much time, effort and work is put into the craft. As an independent artist I have to be more than just a singer and songwriter. I am involved in every aspect from visuals, graphic design, video editing and more. Performing and making music is actually sometimes put on the back burner for how much extra responsibilities we have to take on. We are entrepreneur’s for ourselves and wear many hats.
