We recently connected with Amanda Alward and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
I think the biggest challenge to profit for me is that in my area there are so many great photographers, and sometimes people choice price over product; what I mean is people look at the price and say wow that’s too much, but don’t look at the quality they get in return. There are tons of photographers, and a lot charge a lot but if you look at their quality or my quality you see why the cost is high. A lot of people only look at price and then when they get back their images and they don’t like the quality they usually will email or contact me or possibly other photographers and ask if we can fix their images which we can’t because they are not ours or they have to schedule a whole new session to get the quality they wanted in the first place:

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Amanda. I’ve been married since 2005 fresh out of high school, my husband is a Veteran, and Veterans have a special place in my heart. I am a mom of 5; 3 boys and 2 girls. I have been a photographer for 11 years and I think I’ve photographed a little bit of everything. I love photographing newborns, maternity, seniors and child photography; and I do shoot weddings/engagements here and there.
I opened my studio a year ago and so far it’s been pretty fun, it’s nice having your own space to decorate and do set ups!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Basically, I started a facebook page invited friends and family, posted some photos I had taken and started to see people liked what I was sharing and then people would share my page or an image and then that would draw more people in that liked it and it just kept going, and still is!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think me being someone easy to work with, I try to work within people’s budgets, without pulling myself in a hole. I am very friendly and offer payment plans if people need it. Everyone deserves to have nice photos, so i’m always willing to help any way I can.
