We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Allen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda below.
Amanda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Any advice for creating a more inclusive workplace?
At Birch, we always strive to create an inclusive workspace. We are a body-positive and inclusive salon. It is so important to make each guest and stylists feel their best in our space.

Amanda, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! I am Amanda Allen. Owner and stylist at Brich Salon in Denver. I have been in the hair industry for about 14 years and love every minute of it. I started in the industry as a receptionist at a small family-owned salon in High School. I loved the feel of working in a salon so much, and kept working in salon spaces through college. I did graduate for CU with my degree in Sociology, and worked as a social worker in Austin for about a year. Before deciding, I wanted to delve into the world of hair. I graduated from the Aveda institute of Denver, and the rest is history.
I started Birch Salon in 2015. We are a Kevin Murphy exclusive salon in the SOBO. We have grown from a four chair salon, to now twelve. At Birch Salon, we create an inclusive space where us and our clients can be themselves and feel comfortable. It is important for me to spread body positivity in our industry. I am so proud of creating a team and space that makes everyone feel beautiful. As our team continues to grow, it is so important to keep this feeling. I also strive to keep a positive and friendly work environment for our team.
We have had segments at DFW as well as fashion and photo shoots with the salon. I was also nominated for Colorists of the Year in 2019. We are so excited to get things back up and running this Fall with shows.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social Media has always been a huge part of Birch Salon and passion of mine. I was lucky enough to jump on creating an Instagram following early on the forum. We currently have just over 17k followers, and really stay on top on our page. It is such a great tool for growing the salon. We always try to feature our stylists and all of their amazing work. It is also an amazing way for guests to get to know the feeling of the salon.
Social Media is a huge passion of mine. I try to take classes and follow the latest trends, to stay on top of the game. We have also recently started growing our Tik Tok audience. We joined that very early as well and have been able to grow a following on that platform.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A big pivot we recently made was relocating to South Broadway. We were at our last space for about four years and had to move when our lease was up. We had already began to grow out of our previous space, so this was a blessing in disguise. We built our new space in three months and moved without ever having to close the salon. We started in our new and improved salon in December of 2021, and our team has continued to grow.
